The alternative would be to make an adaptor using the old sensor plug (don't understand why nobody has done that) so I can do any modifications out from underneath the vehicle and the just plug it in.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

1 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I am replacing my crank position sensor on my 2003 996 TT but on every sensor replacement I get this message. "Models which have the original rectangular plug must be updated. Also use (Qty.) (1) 999 652 916 40 oval plug housing (3) 999 652 871 22 connectors (3) 999 704 161 40 grommets. Manual Transmission. " With only 50,000 miles on the car and only having a partial service history I am assuming it has never been replaced and I will need to make the modification. Has anyone on this forum made the modification? Is the modification made to the receptor the sensor cable plugs into? Is this difficult to do? Some posts indicate the access may make it difficult to modify the receptor plug. Any advice experience will be helpful. I'm as much as a DIY as my equipment, tools and physical ability allows, so this would be a jack up remove the wheel job for me. The alternative would be to make an adaptor using the old sensor plug (don't understand why nobody has done that) so I can do any modifications out from underneath the vehicle and the just plug it in.
