Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I have a 997.1 (I know I'm in the Boxster/Cayman Forum) whose convertible top operation works perfectly EXCEPT, intermittently, after the top is fully stowed, the clamshell will not close without releasing and reengaging the top control toggle switch. Any suggestions about how to troubleshoot this? Thanks all.

POST 2Original post

Hey @kebdvm , I saw your post about the clamshell intermittently needing a second toggle of the switch to close. Have you noticed any pattern to when it fails, like whether the car is hot or cold, or has it been happening more often lately? Adding a few more details about the circumstances might help someone here pinpoint the cause

POST 3Original post

Thank you for the input. I only bought the car a month ago when the weather was unseasonably warm. At delivery, it worked just fine; however, within a couple of weeks the issue started happening intermittently (most times I tried to open the top. Now, it is every time...

POST 4Original post

Oh, and I cannot say anything about noticing a pattern the car is warmed-up or not.

POST 5Original post

Seems like the switch may be going. Especially since you said it started intermittently and has progressed to where it is most every time. Possibly a micro-switch in there, they can get pretty sensitive. If you can get access to to it you could spray some electrical contact cleaner in there which may or may not work, but, nothing to lose.

POST 6Original post

Reading, it sounds like a micro-switch is likely the issue. Unfortunately, I have no idea where to start looking for it or them!

POST 7Original post

It’s probably the motor getting weak. You can check the resistance of the motor. I got a new one from HT and it measured 26 ohms. My old one was 0.6 ohms which means most of the windings were shorted. Pretty easy DIY to replace the motor.
