I'm looking at purchasing an '06 S with an aftermarket exhaust system. It is a little louder than I like. If I make the deal, I would like to put a stock system back on it. I found a stock system for sale locally, but it's from an '11 S model. Seller says he kept the headers in place, and replaced the mufflers and pipes from there back.
So my question is does anyone know if the exhaust system, back from the headers, would fit on my '06, from the headers back? I don't know if the headers would be the same on both cars, or not. Even though they are both S models. Thanks much,
Steve
In all likelyhood - no. There are differences between the
987.1
exhaust and the
987.2
exhaust. If the aftermarket is a known brand - you might post in our classified to swap with someone who wants more noise.
Thanks for that. I just found out that the exhaust is a Fabspeed system. So if I make the deal I'll advertise that.
Thank you,
Steve
I can say with certainty that it won't fit. I did the opposite by swapping my 06 to a DFI and had to have my
987.1
Soul exhaust modified to fit my
987.2
headers. They are close, but did require a good bit of modification to meet up that I wouldn't recommend someone try it.
Thank you for letting me know that. That will help me in my search/adventure of quieting it down.

@sullivs
I recommend waiting for a while before deciding to swap the Fabspeed back to stock. After I first had my Fabspeed MaxFlo installed, I thought maybe I made a mistake. I still had my original mufflers and pipes so I could easily go back if I decided I couldn't (or more correctly, my wife couldn't) live with it. But I learned to adjust my RPMs quickly so to not linger in ranges where the low frequency drone lived. I hardly ever think it is excessive now.
However, at that time Fabspeed had two very different exhausts for the 987. The Maxflo was the milder of them, the Supercup Race Exhaust System is a totally different animal. Also it might just be me, but I found that by moving the adjustable tips as far back as possible lessened the drone.
So live with it for a while and then make your decision. If they are still in good shape, you should be able to sell them for more than enough to buy used stock. There are plenty (like mine) sitting in garages just taking-up space.
Wow, I just looked at the current prices.

I think I paid $1100 installed back in 2012. I got mine used because the previous owner's wife complained. They were like new, not even a trace of tarnish on the stainless steel.
Thank you for that advice. I will take care of everything else and leave the exhaust system alone for now.
