Because our cars have non standard seat rails, I want to attach it using the seat bolts.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I'm trying to facilitate the installation of 'the bracketeer'. It's a device that allows you to securely mount a fire extinguisher.
before I can install it, I need access to the e12 torx bolts holding the seats in. Because our cars have non standard seat rails, I want to attach it using the seat bolts.

before I can even attempt to loosen and remove those buggers I need to remove the plastic shroud that covers the front of each rail. I've checked all the rennlist diys and my Bentley book as well as the 101 projects book, nada... I found a YouTube video where an English rhd 996 owner removed the shroud by undoing a Phillips screw and sliding the shroud forward. My car has no Phillips screw visible, and I've poked n prodded and pried as hard as I'm brave enough to do and the shroud will not budge. Help please. Even the simplest of tasks that involve fasteners and auto tools seem to mock me... 😖. I did manage to top up my coolant without spilling too much pinkness everywhere. Without a funnel it's awkward Yay...
Thanks in advance
There is a small tab you need to gently lift with a small flat screwdriver, and slide the cover forward.
be careful not to brake it. You need to lift it just enough to clear the tab.
What meirschwartz said. Somebody may have removed yours in the past and not bothered to replace the screws. You can see the screw holes in mine and the screws that are
supposed
to hold them.
BTW, my extinguisher bracket is from Speed Tactics and I had to leave those cover pieces off. Not sure about the one you're using.
