Cleaned everything up on/around it, even went through procedure to check trans fluid level (but my temp reader was bouncing about wildly, so might have not been in spec when I pulled the check level plug.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Need help with a leak on my 2007 Cayman base. It is just above the front of the tiptronic oil pan. Looks like an electic feed for the shift selector switch. I am not really sure. Where the wire goes in it is leaking fluid. Not sure what to do. Maybe the plastic can be reinserted. Please let me know. Picture is included. Thanks for the help.

POST 2Original post

I know nothing about Tiptronics, but that boot you are talking about is not there to keep fluid from leaking. It is to keep dust and debris out. Your problem is there's a leak in there. Either the engine's rear seal or the transmission. It needs to come out. IMO your efforts to seal off the boot is just a bandaid.

POST 3Original post

Dear all I need some help. My 2007 base Cayman has a leak just above the transmission oil pan toward the front. It is coming out of a black 1 1/4" black plastic connector. It covers a wire feed that is just above the oil pan. I am able to turn it and push it back in but it still leaks. I am not sure what this is or how to stop the leak. This is my first Porsche ownership and could use some help. Thank you, Gary

POST 4Original post

Sorry but I forgot to add the transmission is a tiptronic and I think the line going is i a geat shift selector. I am hoping there is a way of resetting it into the side of the trans. I appreciate all the help. Gary

POST 5Original post

just added a picture of the wire going in and the boot holding it in place. Not sure if I can pull out and reinsert. Thanks for the help.

POST 7Original post

Wow, I also have this exact same problem on my Tiptronic in the 2007 Cayman S . within the past month. We’re at about 150,000 trouble free miles. Mechanic at the dealership said “just live with it”. Said you’d have to get into the trans. to fix it. ?? I was speaking through a parts counter guy on the phone while emailing photos exactly like yours, so I didn’t have the option of inquiring further. Cleaned everything up on/around it, even went through procedure to check trans fluid level (but my temp reader was bouncing about wildly, so might have not been in spec when I pulled the check level plug. I lost about 1/4-1/3 pint). Thought maybe it was slightly overfilled and that was that. No trans. Fluid puddle for 2 weeks, not driving car. Then, it came back. Hope someone has some insight. I don’t think we should have to live with our Caymans and their “Driptronic” transmissions.

POST 8Original post

Just a note - the transmission connectors on some year Cayennes were known to leak - and fluid appeared where you're seeing it, and it eventually worked its way up to the TCM and cooked it. This was around 2003-2004. Could it be the same thing? Possibly. Porsche came out with a modified connector and harness, which required dropping the transmission pan to replace. Dunno if the 987 Tiptronic had the same issue, or if it's a one-off leak. I'd suggest removing the outside part of the connector (behind the rubber boot) and see if there is fluid oozing out of the connector on the transmission case.

POST 9Original post

Wow, cooked TCM? The least popular item on the menu! If it’s just dropping the trans pan (and probably removing some unknown module/solenoid(s) to access), I might save it for the next trans fluid/filter change. Got about 30k on current fluid/filter. not sure how many miles recommended before next change. If anyone does this, please be aware there are “OEM“ filter & pan gasket kits that wrongly use rubber gasket material. Porsche gaskets are paper (and torque spec. Of only 14 ft.lb. on the pan bolts, IIRC). Avoid the rubber, unless you like warping your pan flange, chasing leaks, doing the job twice and spending $$$ to buy another pan (yep, won’t do that again).

POST 10Original post

A quick follow up… while digging through old photos on my phone, I found one taken during the Tiptronic fluid/filter flush I did. It clearly shows access to the rear side of the trans. control plug harness (so, it appears one may not have to remove trans. Just drain and drop the pan). Once the external harness is unplugged, I have no idea what’s involved in removing and/or sealing the leaking internal connector (O-ring?). Might need a good, creative Porsche parts guy to work with. Just sharing what I learned and exhaling a sigh of relief, now that I know the trans. doesn’t have to come out. Im on a tablet, but will try to sign in on phone and try posting the pic, if it would help.
