Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

9 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have owned a 2001 C4 and now I have a 2004 C4S. Both incredible cars. My C4 always had a weird candle wax or oil smell that would come from it after driving. I would always have my mechanic look for an oil leak but they would always tell me it was dry. I purchased the C4S in January and it has the exact same smell after driving. What the hell is this smell? My dad's 73 S always smelled like oil but air cooled cars just always have that smell. img]http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploads26/20160813_074545_resized1591981311.jpg[/img] Pics of both cars

No, but they may be tops at cramming strange engines & exhaust systems in small spaces, not to mention the weather in Germany.

POST 5Original post

I’ve noticed a similar smell, just wondering if you have the AC running or have the fan on? Mine smells similar to what you are describing and it’s might be coming from the foam that has deteriorated in the vents that’s causing the smell. I’m also getting little bits of foam coming out of the vents now... Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

POST 6Original post

Mine just smells like burt rubber but seriously i do always smell the tires when i pull into the garage.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

The smell is only outside the car after driving. I have searched around the internet and a lot of folks are saying it is the undercoating. I wonder if the newer cars have this smell, 997, 991 and so on. My 8 year old son mentioned the smell so I know I'm not imagining it.

POST 8Original post

Mine too It’s just hot metal and oil, well weathered leather, the scented country air

POST 9Original post

The way the mufflers are positioned , the road tar and tire rubber splash up onto the exhaust and bakes on.. That the smell of the 996/991 from my experience.....its their thing faster you go the worst it gets too..
