last year, on a similar trip, I got a bit of tyre damage whilst heading to Andorra and had to have it repaired with a mushroom.

I’ve had one slow puncture in the 2 years that I’ve owned it and that was easily sorted by my local tyre shop (Didn’t want to get my OPC involved as they’d have wanted me to replace the tyre).

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.
21 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

Recently sold my .2 GTS due to the inconvenience of the centre lock wheels and the concern of turbo failure. I know I probably overacted but it just got to me. Those things aside, it was a great car.
Test drove a vey nice .1 C4S today and fell in love. I never realised the difference in engine character was so pronounced. Ride quality seemed much better too. Can’t wait to pick the car up and enjoy the new venture.
I have a 991.1 C4S - I bought it last year with 25,000 on the clock. It's my first Porsche so I can't really compare it with any others.
I took it to the south of France in the summer, it's the perfect GT car, very comfortable (and economical!) on the cruise and it swallows luggage.
The engine has two very distinct characters, one is normal and civilised, the other is a bit mental. I did an 80 mile trip in it yesterday - great fun despite the rain. Mine is a PDK version and I really like it, the best gearbox in any car I've had, it's always in the right gear - particularly in sport mode which I usually have on.
It's not the fastest car I've owned, if it's not pushed it's quite normal - but, it's a lovely car and the engine seems perfect to me.
Enjoy your new car and do post some pictures!

Was your GTS two wheel drive? It would be interesting to hear your comparison with the C4S, especially now the weather is turning.
Nice one OP, will be interesting to hear how you get on with the .1 v the .2. Very different power delivery.
I went for a .1 GTS with the 5 bolt wheels v a .2 for the same reasons you mention for selling your .2 (wheels and turbo). I'm sure the .2 is an amazing car though.

Having just laid up for 5 hours - at a tyre shop! - waiting for a recovery trust thanks to my centre locks I can feel your relief.
Not good.
I really can't see any benefit to centre locks other than some prefer the look. It would put me off having any car with them.
Thanks for the comments so far, it all goes to validate and endorse my decision.
The .2 GTS was 2 wheel drive and to be honest, I only went for the 4s for the wider rear arches really. I’ll post some more pics when I pick it up tomorrow and give my first impressions having driven it home.
Is it just the hassle if you get a puncture the problem with centre-locks? Can you convert a centrelock GTS to a 5-bolt wheel easily enough?
Reason I am asking as my current wish list toy in a few years is a 991.1 GTS, don't want turbos even though it is faster and the GTS seems the best compromise of everything that I want.

5 bolt hubs was a no cost option on the .1. You could look out for one but they are rare
The CLs are only a pain to start with, once you've done it a couple of times it's quick and easy but I fully agree they're completely pointless on a road car and overkill.
I've recently taken my rears off to get new tyres, and it's not really any more difficult than 5 stud wheels.
I am however worried about my Euro trip, which 2.2K miles through, France, Germany and Spain. last year, on a similar trip, I got a bit of tyre damage whilst heading to Andorra and had to have it repaired with a mushroom. For my 2026 I'll take a torque converter, 60cm torque wrench and a decent breaker bar. A couple of mates in the group have CLs so we'll split the batch of tools between us.

I really like the look of centre locks- really sets it apart. Mine came with the special socket which lives in a special container under the front cover. Which I’m sure the OPC would have removed if they knew it was there….

That's standard equipment and is intended for use.

and they don't give away the massive breaker bar or a second person to use it with.
I bit the bullet and opted for the centrelock wheels when I purchased my GTS, mainly as I think they look good! I’ve had one slow puncture in the 2 years that I’ve owned it and that was easily sorted by my local tyre shop (Didn’t want to get my OPC involved as they’d have wanted me to replace the tyre).
I’m embarking on a 1500 mile euro trip next year and have purchased a 2 piece torque wrench, lube (for the wheels) and a lightweight jack so that if I do have issues I’ll be able to remove the wheel myself (which is pretty straightforward tbh) - CL wheels needn’t be too much of a hassle.
BTW - the OPs C4S looks superb!

The 2 piece TW, is it a Sealey or a Norbar? Can I also ask which jack you went for?
We figured we'd use our tools in conjunction with a break down service, i.e. we have the tools for the CLs and breakdown has the jack and the transport to pop to the nearest place to replace, or repair, a tyre.

The wrench is a Norbar 5RN and the jack is a 2 ton Heyner heavy duty scissor jack which is available on Amazon. My thinking is that if I get a puncture I can just whip the wheel off and (hopefully) my travel companion will take it to the closest kwikfit!!
Hopefully I’ll not need to use it but it’s one less thing to worry about!
I had a 997 GTS with centrelock. They scared me too.
Recently have the itch to get back in a 991gts.
This seems a good solution to travel with...

That's a handy looking gizmo, similar to the below, apart form the reaction arm, which on this device goes into the wheel (great idea), whereas the Sealey version reacts" with the ground.

I have a Stahwille torque multiplier, which works really well and works like the Sealey version. I'm tempted to create an addition to clamp onto it so that if goes into the gap in the wheel.
