Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

WhataCroc - if the car was in storage and locked the remote system shuts down to save power, and one has to use the key in the door lock, and start the car, which re-activates the remote system.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

My number 2 key fob is dead. When I hit the buttons, bothing happpens and the
LED
doesn't even light up. The key still starts the car. Can I just replace the
battery
, or does this need to go back to
Porsche
for reprogramming??
Same exact thing is going on with mine. Car is only a few weeks old and it shouldn't be dead so quickly. I even used it for a while thinking it may recharge like the
BMW
keys do. No luck.
After not using th key for most of the winter as the car was put away, mine was not working when I first tried it either. I unlocked the door with the key itself, started and drove the car and now everything is fine. Mind you, my key fob has been less than perfect from day one.
WhataCroc - if the car was in storage and locked the remote system shuts down to save power, and one has to use the key in the door lock, and start the car, which re-activates the remote system. As I recall, the remote shuts down after about 1 week of not being used.
In general if the car is in storage in a secure area it is much better to leave it un-locked as the load on the
battery
is much lower ( even during the driving season, when not used on daily bases ).
You did mention that you had problems with your remote before, so this might or might not be an issue. I took my car out of storage about a week ago, and the remote function worked fine - I have not seen any data on how long the
battery
should last, but I suspect it is a
lithium battery
, and should be 3 or more years.
My #2 fob is completely dead. Normally the
LEDs
would light up when you hit a button. No go here... Maybe the fob had a button held down in the dealer's drawer. I don't know. But she is DOA. It almost looks like I could pry back the cover and check out the
battery
.... But I don't want to mess up my pretty Key!
There are other threads on this one - Which I remembered when my #1 key refused to work.
I changed the
battery
, still not good.
Took it to the
Porsche
Dealer, where I was told to come back with the spare key and the other plastic key so they could replace the electronics inside the keys and re-program them all as well as the Car - Took 20 minutes and 2 hours driving back and forth to get the other keys from my house.......
So if you do go to the
Porsche
dealer, take all your keys with you........
My number 1 key stopped working one week into owning the car. I reverted to number 2 and have not tried a new
battery
in number 1 to see if that's the culprit. - Suneet
No pics to share about pulling it apart - But it was a breaze!
On one side of the fob there is a gap just big enough for a screw driver (on the key end). I used my fingernail to get underneath it. Pull up. That is it. Comes in two pieces and the
battery
is right there. Wish I remembered the
battery
number... I think it was like a 3325. Anyways... swap the
battery
and pop it back together. simple.
This site is a wealth of knowledge. I did not know this about the remote system? It explains my experience recently after a long timeout in the garage.
This was more than a sleeping key!! The fob was DOA. No need to RTFM here. It does not specify a
battery
replacement procedure.
And actually... The car goes to sleep, not the key. 7 days and she is sleeping like a Baby.
The keys are off until you push the button. Push the button too much... the
battery
dies. This thread started by stating that one key works just fine. The #2 key will open the doors, start the car, but the buttons do not work. When you hit a botton and the red
LED
does not flash - It is a bad sign. These are the symptoms of the
battery
being dead, and not the car trying to save
battery
juice.
It is odd that so many keys have died so early...
The only thing that I can think about was that maybe the key somehow had one of the buttons pushed down while in the dealer's drawer-o-keys. When I pulled out the
battery
it measured about 2.733V DC when it was rated for 3.0V. Replace the
battery
and she was rocking again! No muss no fuss. And no trip to the dealer!
