The airbag deactivation switch is a dealer installed item and not standard on the car.

I noticed today that I left the glove box open and when I used the remote to lock the car, it beeped.

for one day, and noticed that the horn HAS beeped when the locks were set from the remote but NOT every time.

Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I just purchased a
2007 Cayman
S and on the ride home, my girlfriend noticed the passenger side airbag light "on." I have read various threads on how the passenger side seat can cause this light to illuminate. I have also read that moving the seat forward can correct the situation.
However, I wanted to point out what I thought was an error in the Owners Manual. Or at least it appears in error to us. Please correct if I am wrong.
Page 56, on the 2007 manual. Top Left corner illustration showing the "key operated air bag deactivation device." This shows what appears to be a keyhole on the sidewall of the passengers side of the dash (only able to be viewed with the passenger side door open). The diagram correctly shows an airbag decal on the metal door jamb. To me this shows that I am looking in the right area of the car for the deactivation key insert area......
But it does not exist.
Any comments? I would like to know how to deactivate the airbag....or activate it, if it becomes deactivated.
Kevin
As far as I know from K-Man-S's article on installing a child seat and airbag deactivation switch, this switch is a feature that has to be added by the dealer if the Latch system is requested.

I think there are a few errors in the Owners Manual. It also says you can make the windows go up and down with the remote (audi, jetta do it) also there is no horn beep once the doors lock. I went to the dealer with these issues they said it could not be changed. Ross-Tech needs to hurry up with the Porsche program, I love using it on my audi and jetta:banana:
Thanks for the replies and the link. One would think that the illustration or text would indicate this as not being offered in the base model.
About the horn beep....
I have only had my
Cayman
for one day, and noticed that the horn HAS beeped when the locks were set from the remote but NOT every time. I noticed today that I left the glove box open and when I used the remote to lock the car, it beeped. So I went back to the car to see if it was trying to tell me something. I noticed the lights went off when locked, but the glove box light remained on..... So I immediately thought the beep was warning me of something that could potentially cause the battery to drain.
I closed the glove box, hit the remote and the doors locked, lights flashed and NO BEEP! So, am I to conclude the horn beeping is only going to happen if there is something amis with the car as I walk away? Jury is still out for me, but this would be an easy test for other
Cayman
owners.
If that is true, I actually like that feature!

I had a few problems with this when I first drove my new
Cayman
. This was fixed by the dealer, but subsequently I noticed the same thing and found what caused it. If the passenger seat is back too far, the top will press against the back wall, aparently causing some force on the seat mechanism (as well as denting the leather trim at the top where it contacts the wall). This seems to upset the seat sensor and turn on the "passenger air bag disable" light. Move the seat forward a little and it goes away. I don't know why Porsche did not limit the seat travel, in combination with the tilt, so this doesn't happen. Try moving the seat forward a bit to relieve the force and see if the indicator goes out. I don't know if the dealer "fix" earlier wasn't just moving the seat but when the warning light came back on later, simply moving the seat fixed it.

It looks like you've got your answer. The airbag deactivation switch is a dealer installed item and not standard on the car.
Later,
You are correct - the horn will sound if you try to lock the car with the remote while the front trunk, rear hatch, or glovebox are open.
Did you do a search about this? This has been discussed before several times.
There are several issues being discussed here, but yes I have my answer. As for the other things...
Gator, I am new, but my car is also already registered. Not sure who you were talking to...
Artic, As in my very first sentence, I acknowledged the fix for the airbag bug. The thread is about the deactivation device. Now I know its an add on.
Interpol, no I did not do any research on the horn beeping....but if you look, you will notice the issue was not raised by me. I was responding to another post in this thread. I was simply offering my entire breadth of experience...the whole 48 hours of
Cayman
ownership. LOL
My 07 automatically turns off the passenger airbag if there isn't enough weight on it, such as "a child up to 1 year old" (page 54, manual). This actually works for my daughter who is almost 4. If you get the LATCH attachment you are able to put more force down on the seat when tightening down the child seat than you can with a belt-positioned child seat, so you can get the switch installed. That's mentioned on page 55.
