Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. However, I have found the MPG figure has dropped since I had the switchable exhaust fitted

This was quite handy the other night when an eco-friendly neighbour was talking about global warming and fast cars (looking at me accusingly) and I pointed out that actually, my C4S used less fuel than her Espace auto!

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi there
Please be gentle! I am new here and have just acquired a 996 Targa last weekend. Just getting used to it now. Must say, love the exhaust note and the feeling of an open cabin environment with the help of the glass roof. Any other active Targa members on here? Would love to compare notes.
I am coming from a VW Golf GTI Anniversary and this is my first time owning a sports/super car. I was mildly surprised by the 28.3mpg I got on a run down the M1 last weekend - is this normal? Also I achieved 20mpg in 40 miles of town driving today which I thought was quite good. Sorry for the economy figures but I am coming from a diesel!

Hi Maxie
There are a few Targa owners on here.
Welcome to the forum, any pics of your car.
Word of warning, don't call Admin SunnyD... don't think he likes it!

Welcome aboard. Yep are a few Targa owners on here - they are great cars.
The mpgs sound pretty normal, but you have some work to do yet. You know you have been driving when you get it under 10 mpg!
30mpg is also possible on the motorways if you are really gentle.
And pictures are always needed on this site!

Thanks Nicola, So Poo, Jamie and Howard for your kind replies. I've not heard of a Supersport Targa - was this a Limited Edition model? How did it differ from an ordinary Targa? Nice pics So Poo, seems as though you Zymol regularly! Is that Lapis Blue? Jamie - I have already thought of my next car, a 997 Targa 4! They look so beautiful and indeed generally so much prettier looking than a 996 imo. However that won't be happening until at least another 3 or 4 years.... And Howard, I still miss the rear glass wrap around from the original Targas - it's what made it look different from other 911's. I wish Porsche had somehow engineered that sliding glass roof back into a wraparound section.
I was looking for the switch that manually operates the rear wing (as it's not on my centre console). From doing a search on the forum, I understand this switch to be located in the footwell somewhere (?). I shall have to look for it when I get home. Also from reading around the forum, I understand the Targa is prone to squeaks and rattles. I haven't witnessed the latter but I can vouch for the former; I thought it was my seat.

Yep - it is by your loud pedal on the side of the panel where the fuses are. Not a great place for it.
And well spotted - it is Lapis!

Welcome Maxie!
Glad you are enjoying the car. Targas are great, I miss the open feel of my 993 Targa.
I've been pleasantly surprised by the economy figure on my C4S- just under 30 on my commute, driving 'normally'. This was quite handy the other night when an eco-friendly neighbour was talking about global warming and fast cars (looking at me accusingly) and I pointed out that actually, my C4S used less fuel than her Espace auto!
You might find that the OBC's mpg reading is a little optimistic, but this is more than offset by the manic depressive tendencies of fuel gauge and the range indicator.
However, I have found the MPG figure has dropped since I had the switchable exhaust fitted

Cheers Robert! A week before I bought the Targa, I had a drive in Paragon's C4S. The sales guy drove first and he absolutely floored it!! He drove over the drainage grates on the side of the road at 90mph (we were on country lanes) to demonstrate how the suspension copes with bumpy roads! He was pointing out that ordinary cars' wheels would momentarily leave the road therefore causing loss of control whereas the 4S remained on all fours whatever the condition of the road; indeed the car was not fazed by the drainage grates and kept to its true course - such remarkable roadholding! Me, I was hanging on for dear life as I have never experienced such acceleration before! When I drove the car, he must have thought I was a pussy cat as I was driving fairly sensibly!

Maxie.
It was a special order in 1984 and from 1985 was a standard model. It is a turbo but without the turbo...

Wow! That is one beautiful car..... Must be a pain to keep it in that condition but a joy to maintain (if you see what I mean!). The colour of your leather contrasts very well with the exterior colour imo; you must get all the looks and stares with that roof off.....

Thanks
Nothing beats driving her on a nice day with the roof off...
The kids (and blokes) do a double take, especially when they see a female at the wheel.
