Just picked up a new
Cayman S
!!! It has the Prefered Package Plus, Xenon lights, and the dual fog lights. (Two fog light settings)
On the first setting, there is more of a marker light in the front fogs. On the second, the foglights really come on, but ONE of the tail lights illuminates as well. (Yes, the driver side only)
So, my question is; Are the rear tail lights supposed to be illuminated with the second foglight setting? I either have a burned out bulb in the right, or a whacky left tail light....
Thanks!
-Kyle
Yes the rear lights should be illuminated and only one side is on.
on the light switch.....you pull out one click to turn the fog lights on and one more click, for a total of two, to turn on the rear fog light (which is the red light on the driver's side in the rear).
and please, please don't drive with the rear fog on unless it is, in fact, foggy or raining hard!
i'm sure you knew that already, but most people around here have no clue what a rear fog is for. this is los angeles, however.
OK - So, are you telling me that ONLY the driver's side rear tail light has the rear fog light? It looks unbalanced...
that is correct. it is not unusual among european cars.
That is just freaking weird. And it bothers me. I like things to be even. At least it is not an issue with the car, but it does irk me.
bigmellon there are a lot of things different about Porsches that you might want to know. Look here:

My previous
Audi
and my wife's Volvo plus my

S all have single rear fog lights on the drivers side. This is common practice. The rear fog is very effective when used properly and very annoying (to other drivers) when used improperly. One bright red lamp really stands out in reduced visibility environments.
You should join that class-action suit of people who didn't get owners manuals...
The reason only the driver's side rear fog illuminates is for safety reasons: (1) so the driver of an overtaking car (remember it'll be foggy) can distinguish the driver's side from the passenger's side to facilitate passing and (2) if rear fogs are on both sides it can be difficult to see when the brake lights go on.
AFAIK, all European cars have the same setup.
the only use for the rear fog light is for when you're backing up....just dont use it unless you're backing up and need more light behind you.
The rear fog light is so you don't get rear ended in fog or other low visibility conditions (heavy rain at night).
