Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

The issue was solved, and things were great until the motor failed in July 2020
A few weeks ago I started noticing a bit of an odd noise while driving. Last weekend, while participating in a three-day driver's ed at Summit Point, the noise became much more prominent.
I don't think I'm very skilled at describing noises, and the best I can do is say that it sounds like a "hissing" noise, with a bit of "whining" layered over the hiss here and there.
The noise comes on with the throttle, but only when I'm moving.
Moving in any gear, add in throttle and the noise appears. The noise immediately goes away when I come off the throttle.
Moving and in neutral, I can rev the motor and no noise. Well, there is noise, but not the one that concerns me. Sitting still in neutral, I can rev the motor and no noise. That makes tracking down the noise a bit of a bitch.
No CEL, and the motor seems to be running fine. The car ran great all weekend at Summit (just needs a more skilled driver).
One thought is exhaust. Earlier today I removed the mufflers and gave things a looking over. The only thing that caught my eye was a bit of a split along the edge of one of the mufflers:
I don't think this goes all the way through, so I don't think it is the problem, but I'm not sure. Anyways, the noise is the same after putting everything back together.
Any ideas? Something internal in the exhaust system? Something else???
Your description sounds like driveline noise to me. Does it occur in all gears or just in o e particular gear?
check trans oil level. Also check engine and trans mounts. If they are worn, gear noise can be transmitted to the cabin. Mine makes some gear whine while accelerating wearing hard.
Did you ever resolve this issue? This is the exact thing happening with my 17 911 GTS. Your description is exactly what I would have written. It is progressively getting worse and has me worried. Thank you!!!
Sorry I never got back here to finish the story. It ended up being a gearbox issue. I think that soon after these posts I started noticing issues getting into second gear. I ended up pulling the gearbox out of the car myself and driving it to Ohio for a rebuild (
BMC&G transmissions

I started to hear a whining noise, like that sound a plane makes, but very subtle. At around 4-5k and up RPM. In any gear but mostly 3-4th. It doesn't happen in neutral. I have noticed sometimes getting into 2nd requires a softer touch. A couple times I thought it was in but it was fully and had som grinding. Never had any 2nd gear pop out though. Wonder if I'm having similar as you...
