The main difference was he used the trim tool to get some of the window seals separated more cleanly and he also pulled a lot harder than I tried.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hello ! I've a 110k mile 996.2 C4. Recently heard a grinding sound at the rear driver side and found that my rear quarter window is no longer coming up when I close the top. I just had the front window regulators replaced - so I'm guessing my rear window regulator is toast. I am unfortunately some time away from being able to replace it and have some heavy rain coming up ( I don't have a garage )- is there any way I can manually raise / pull up the rear quarter window ? I would really not like to go the garbage bag route. I searched online while some claim to have pulled it up - I cannot find how. Thanks a ton in advance for saving my seats !

POST 2Original post

If truly the window regulator is grinding and the window does not close, I don't think there is much you can do. There is no manual operation of the windows. Out of desperation, you might have someone push the switch while you try to pull up on the window glass. Watch your fingers!

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

aaaa ... that sucks. Thanks for giving me a hint of what I should at least aim for. Will give it a shot.

POST 4Original post

I just had the same thing happen to me. You can pull up the window by applying steady upward force to the window while working the window switch. For me I needed to push the switch both ways. I be found it best to pull the window and hold the switch until it starts to drop the window a little bit. Than reverse the switch and you will be able to pull it up a few inches. Do this a couple times and you should be able to get it fully up. Mine does not leak water but I do get some more wind noise at the seal between the windows M

POST 5Original post

When these cars were new I found you have to go thru the whole process To get everything to seal up properly & the battery needs to be in good shape. So Press the button & hold it down until it finishes, I that leaves the rear wings down have someone help pull them up.

Thanks ! That's solid directions. I'm going to give this a try tomorrow morning. Fingers crossed.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I tried it and failed. Could not pull the window up.

POST 8Original post

Next step would be to disengage the drive motor from the regulator. I don't know how to do this but hopefully someone with a cab has been there..done that. Here is a good link https://rennlist.com/forums/996-foru...-in-a-cab.html

POST 10Original post

I'd consider ordering a rain proof outdoor cover ASAP. When my back window was dealminating I was in a similar boat, and a few well placed towels and the cover got me through some storms until I could get it fixed.

POST 11Original post

Sorry that didn’t work for you. Hopefully you get it sorted out quickly.

awesome. The procedure works multiple times. Im still putting the top down and pull the window up after I get the top up. The chicks definitely dig it When you repair it let me know what you do and how it goes. Im on the fence on about this being DIY M
