Its counter intuitive as I've always been taught to get your braking done in straight line before a corner but its a common technique used by lots of 911 racers and it works.

One bad thing I've noticed is the total lack of front end grip which has surprised me, I was expecting to change my driving style and that it would take time to learn how to drive with the rear engined layout but I wasn't expecting so little grip at the front (in cornering and braking).

Chris Franklin set my car up to eliminate understeer, I now have controllable oversteer on the throttle and no more endless winding of lock to get around a corner!

I want this car! 2007 997 Turbo - Midnight Blue with Sand Leather, 23000 miles, PCCB brakes, Cargraphic Exhaust, Air Filter & Remap, Bilstein B16 coilover suspension, air lift system, BOSE, sunroof, nav etc.
I done a deal on this car 20 days ago and paid 25% deposit with a dealer. Car had supposedly been taken in part exchange for a BMW M5.
Dealer pulled out of the deal yesterday, saying the car was actually on Sale or Return and that the owner had pulled out of the deal. I would like to contact the real owner and the dealer says the owner would like to contact me as well, however the dealer will not pass on our details.
Anyway, I would really like to buy this car so if you are the owner, please contact me or, if anyone has something similar available, please let me know! Cash waiting.

I was looking at this before I done my deal and have been talking to Andrew Hamilton about it, two things put me off though, the mileage as I will be adding 12-15k a year and also that it is a convertible, not because I don't like convertibles, but the back seat backs are beyond vertical and don't look very nice for the kids!
I was just about to phone him again to see if its still available (he had someone interested in it yesterday) and see if I could go and see it tomorrow as he says not to be put off by the mileage as its immaculate.
I have a turbo, but always keep an eye on classifieds anyway. I remember looking at this and couldn't help notice that one of the pics has a disc showing a wear indicator?

I must admit the 620bhp appeals but not over keen on the colour and and it has been on the market for months and months which always worrys me a bit. Trouble is, its also a few grand more than the one I done a deal on and I'd still want to spend out on suspension etc.
I think my main problem is that the other one I placed the deposit on had all the bits I wanted and its going to be difficult to find another.

I really like this one too, but, it is totally standard (albeit with PCC's), has been on the market for a long time and is in Ireland! Although the spec is nice, its very low mileage and I like the colour.

Cobalt Blue with Sand Leather
That's true enough, I just prefer the darker colour

Nice car, love the colour but it won't be 620 bhp, original turbos Max out at 550-560 bhp.

That's interesting to know. I have seen quite a few claiming either 608bhp or 620bhp from DMS remap and exhausts! They have a dyno printout in the pics on their own website for this one and I must say it looks like a kids picture of the Rockies it's got so many peaks!!
Air lift system? The turbo is not really that low. Certainly clears spped bumps and I have only had one problem when trying to get into an underground garage.

Yes cobalt. My 996 is cobalt and it does seem to vary a lot in different lights. Much more than any other coloured car I've had.
Its dark enough if you want dark. Polished in a good light it looks electric.

The one I put a deposit on was lowered on Bilstein coilovers and was a bit lower than most

The DMS 600BHP+ upgrade includes new bigger turbos IIRC. Their stage 1 map (~540BHP) which I have, utilises the standard VTGs.
That dealer has unfortunately most likely sold that car you wanted on for more money now that you've had it sorted by Parr. I'd report him to trading standards after getting your deposit back. The dealers behaving like a criminal and someone day will put his nose out of joint.
Cut your losses and move on matey. This is a similar spec/condition car albeit without Cargraphic goodies. The colours dark olive met but it looks black in most light. Its a very nice colour.

Not 'feeling' one! Got a call last night from a guy via my wanted ad who is thinking of selling his Atlas Grey one, which looks nice, gen.ii look, techart kit, bbs rims, gt2rs turbos, upgraded intercoolers, eurocup exhaust, air intake and remap, eibach springs, ap anti roll bars, lightened flywheel, uprated clutch....
just waiting for him to come back to me regarding the standard spec, service history etc now
I like this one too but then feel guilty for liking it as it may be a little OTT. I offered the guy 50k for it back in November but he wasnt interested. Still has it tho so maybe my offer wasnt so bad!

Dark Olive looks fantastic, not sure the Black wheels work with it though. Weiss Gold would look awesome.
What we don't know is wether the dealer has shafted TB or wether the original seller has shafted both the dealer and TB. Either way the dealer has acted totally unprofessionally and will never get my business or that of anyone close to me.
Had a very interesting conversation with a guy who called me following my Wanted ad earlier.
He had called asking about the car before and been told a deposit had been paid. Then on Tuesday evening, he was phoned by the delaer whilst driving 'my' car back from Parr and offered it to him for £1500 more than I was paying saying that its now all fixed and fully serviced!
The next Morning, having been ignored by the dealer for days, he emails me saying the deal is off and that it was a sale or return car that had been taken back by the owner! The plot thickens!
Get your money back pal and put yourself in another car. Blue car was stunning and I wouldn't be surprised if your own thread caused enough interest in the car for the dealer to find another buyer at more money. Unethical but thats people for you nowadays. There's a gen 1 car in black with only 2000 miles which has been for sale forever. Try and do a deal on that if you can stretch the extra money. Car needs to be £5-7k cheeper as seller is being over optimistic. Rest assured that dealer will never be able to build a reputable business doing things like this. Despicable.

Basically a virtually new gen 1. Mid 50s it would be a super buy. You can comfortably run 650-700hp on standard gen 1 engine apparently.

I know, it ridiculous lol
Don't worry I will do.
I'm guessing around the 1000nm but when I get over to Germany I will stick a 1050nm plate in it and keep torque just below that even though it's probably capable of 1100nm.
I want it to be drivable and the clutch to be the weak point not the gearbox.

Doesn't float my boat. Not a fan of silver, not sure about the GT3 bumper, don't like the rear lights, bucket seats - not sure how comfy, and all those mods would worry me about long term maintenance/costs.
But its low miles, proper gearbox, I'm guessing well sorted and seems to fit what you were looking in the blue car.

I must say I quite like the GT Silver, though colour less important to me than spec. I agree about the GT3 front on a turbo, don't like it but could live with it, quite like the rear lights although the best ones (IMO) are red ones like on this one

and the seats, I have been assured, are very comfortable! I love how they look, but also felt they might not be good for every day use, so asked the question.

ha so would anyone and I'd throw in the rear seats from mine too! Those folding buckets are worth £6k!!!!
The guy at Parr did say that the guy his boss bought it from spent a fortune on it before emigrating. Didn't realise the seats would be that much though!!

The mods he's carried out are quality. Can't say I like the styling but the engine and chassis mods are very thoughtful.
That car is stunning! The only thing I don't like styling wise are the led rear lights and they would be easy to replace. Looks like it's had money lavished all over it. Some tidy engine mods and those carbon buckets
I'm guessing its way over my budget, but if you can make the man maths work, I'd get it bought.
FWIW I think GT Silver is a great colour and subtly different enough from Arctic Silver to make it stand out.
Nice one on Autotrader Hi have you got the triangular piece of black plastic that fits on to the wing in front of the side mirror. I need the OFF SIDE one and the nylon fixings that fit it to the body. If you have an undamaged one could you list it on eBay so I can buy if the price is right.
Thanks

Well I finally got it - The actual one I was after all along! It was a long and stressful process but I got there in the end! Collected it Thursday last week. Coming back from Chichester across country for the first half, then A3 and M25 stuck at 50mph ish, I couldn't believe that the car showed an average of 28mpg!! Very impressive. Saying that, it was showing 110 miles and 3/4 tank of fuel left, I've only managed another 80 miles since and the average is 18 mpg and showing well under a 1/4 tank!
One bad thing I've noticed is the total lack of front end grip which has surprised me, I was expecting to change my driving style and that it would take time to learn how to drive with the rear engined layout but I wasn't expecting so little grip at the front (in cornering and braking). Anyway, when washing the car yesterday, I noticed that the front tyres are a bit cracked and perished so I am hoping this lack of grip is down to this????
I've fancied trying Michelin Pilot Super Sports for a while and after a bit of a search this morning I was pleased at finding them at Openeo for £165 each. I then thought I'd try Camskill. I've just ordered two 235/35x19 Pilot Super Sports for £192.58, delivered. Unbelievable!

Not normal. If tyres don't sort it, get the geometry checked by a Porsche specialist.

Oh well, just got an email from Camskill saying order cancelled as the price on the site was an error!! Not happy.
Has anyone tried 245/35x19 front tyres on their 997.1 Turbo? I am worried about the lack of grip, or is it likely it's just the perished tyres and new 235's will be fine?
911's are like that :-)
some say you either get how a 911 drives or you don't
I don't so don't buy them.
you could put a bag of cement in the front boot :-).
or trail brake every time you want to turn in to get some weight transfer over the nose :-/
just enjoy the traction out the other end :-)

Well I've been expecting it to be totally different and have already thought about loading up the front and have been practicing left foot braking to get the thing turned in, but it is really bad at the moment, hit the brakes hard in a straight line and nothing happens other than lots of ABS pulsing, turn in slow then start adding in some power and the front washes out instantly!
Congrats beautiful car you've bought. New tyres will improve grip but the best thing to do is to send the car up to centre gravity for a geo. It will always understeer at the limit though with the 4wd and weight at the back. You just have to be bit slower in and fast out. Trail braking i.e. staying on the brakes longer than usual deep into a corner also helps get the nosed tucked in. Its counter intuitive as I've always been taught to get your braking done in straight line before a corner but its a common technique used by lots of 911 racers and it works. The lack of noise from the car, the understeer and a design fault on the hydraulic clutch (susceptible to slave cylinder and or accumulator giving up the ghost) are the three negatives on an otherwise very good package. For normal road use its not an issue but if you're tracking and you're happy to spend money Cargraphic can widen the track of the car at the front behind wider CF wings which fixes the understeer but I expect its eye wateringly expensive.
Happy to meet up with a few other turbo owners and let you have ago in mine to see if its any different.

It doesn't have to Imi. Chris Franklin set my car up to eliminate understeer, I now have controllable oversteer on the throttle and no more endless winding of lock to get around a corner! I'll forward you my geo' settings if you want yours eradicated as well.

That sounds more like my driving style, can I have your settings, please?

I've had him do mine too mate. It doesn't eradicate it 100% IMO. Much much better than stock though. I'm running a bit of neg camber at the front.

I really can't get my Turbo to understeer anywhere now Imi, running -1.04' on front, -1.26' on the rear.

-1.04 is nothing, I am sure I could get it to under steer , you are telling me on a round about the rear goes 1st over the front pushing with only -1 at the front if you slowly increase your speed !!
you have people running -2 just for the road these days to combat the understeer.
of course there gets a limit where in the wet more camber don't work.

Yes.

from my experience (not on Porsches admittedly) front and rear toe have as much effect as camber anyway, not that I've managed to get rid of understeer completely.

i'll have to take your word for it, as I cannot believe it :-/
not that it should be set up like that any way ..... but with those camber setting and the size of a 911 rear tyres, its hard to believe your rears let go first.
OP get yourself a new set of Michelin Pilot Super Sports (front AND rear) and then take the car over to JZM or PARR to get the geo set up and then drive the b
ks off it
Oh and congratulations on getting the car you wanted

I'm torn at the moment. I have P-Zeros on my M3 and have been impressed and the Turbo has just had new P-Zeros fitted to the rear. I don't like having odd tyres front/rear but really want to try the MPSS.
Parr fitted the suspension and did the geo to their fast road set-up already, though that was a while ago and I don't know if it's been changed since.

Ah ok. If you have new P-Zeros on the back already then you should put new P-Zeros on the front too. That way you will have a 'base' from which to work out any handling deficiencies.
It may be a good idea to ask PARR to 'double check' the geo once the tyres have been fitted as if you are experiencing chronic understeer and the new tyres dont fix the problem then the geo would be the next logical step.
Unless its the Pirelli Corsa or Tropheo R compound i.e. track compound they are just about the most average tyre I've had. I didn't mind the Pirelli P Zeros as they happily let the tail wag all the time but didn't inspire any confidence whilst pressing on and my car is stock with only 480 bhp. With the OPs 550bhp ish I think they'd be pretty ropey IMO. I'd just wear them out over the next 6 to 12 months and then get a decent set of Michelins or I hear very good things about the new Dunlop Sport Max.

Pleased to hear it worked out in the end. Enjoy.
