Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Just booked PCGB Donnington 4th April but got letter saying 98db(A) drive by test will apply and that 'sports exhausts will probably fail'.
Leading evidence: 'Test will apply' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Test will apply' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

thanks guys - so I presume that they can't ban you from going on track just because you fail a static (which by the look of it I probably will) and will therefore use the driveby as the proper test.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Sorry if this is in the wrong forum guys but wondered if any 996 owners with sports exhaust fitted have had problems with noise levels. Just booked PCGB Donnington 4th April but got letter saying 98db(A) drive by test will apply and that 'sports exhausts will probably fail'. Apparently my version of the PSE does not have the quite switch.
Can I get any kind of silencers cheaply or should I re-book a noisier track? Or will it pass anyway ( can't imagine my 996 C4 being as loud as a 964 with sports exhaust for instance)
Any help appreciated

Hi, I have a 996C4S with PSE, but no switch.
I did Bedford on saturday and i think they are one of the strictest on noise, i believe 87db on drive by. I (like a lot of other pork) failed the static test which meant an instructor took my car and drove it at almost maximum revs right by a microphone on track. I passed, so i do not think you will have probs with a 98db drive by.

One of the key problems 911's suffer is having limited sound deadening at the rear where the engine is - so on static test, unlike a front engined car, where the mechanical noise is 10 feet away from the exhausts, the static tests ALSO pick up mechanical noise - and due to the frequency, it has a reasonably high SPL - on driveby, these frequencies don't travel well - so the drive by figure will always be much lower than the static on a 911.

If this is the case I will risk it and go on the day. I might ring Donnington to see what their take on it is.

Yes they can - and often do - but it's down to how you approach the marshalls - explain about the mechanical noise and then say "if I fail, can I do a drive by?" - then take it VERY steady by the sound meters
