Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I have a 2000 996 Cabriolet. All of a sudden I noticed none of my power windows would work. I opened the convertible top and the windows went down correctly and back up when I closed the top. Then I noticed the switch that has a light in it above the switch to raise and lower the top would not lock or unlock the doors and no light. Then I went to open the hood and the release would not work. Also, the release for the fuel door would not release. Turning the key and holding it in the door lock does nothing. I checked all fuses in the panel on drivers side side wall with voltmeter and all are fine. I guess I will have to remove right wheel and inner fender to get to the manual release to get to the battery, etc. The car will start fine so I know the battery isn't completely dead. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

POST 2Original post

Just a guess. Are you using the remote fob to lock/unlock the car? Try locking and unlocking with the manual key, and then within a few seconds insert the key in the ignition and turn the key to ON, not start. Like I said, only a guess.

POST 3Original post

did you check all the fuses? I know when I was having issues with my filler neck it was some weird radio fuse that was blown and causing it.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 18711923

My remote has never worked in the 8 years I've owned it. Thanks though!

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I checked all fuses on lower driver side of the dash. All were good Are there others?

POST 6Original post

See if the floor is wet under the drivers seat. It may be a bad alarm modual. Also a bad ignition switch will cause all kind of stupid issues that dont make sence.

POST 7Original post

There is a 10 amp fuse under the drivers seat at the connector side of the Alarm Control Module that if blown for some reason it will cause this.... Also if the carpet is wet like DeJeeper says, it can damage the Alarm Module whether or not it also blows the fuse...

POST 8Original post

Wait. 996.1s have fuel filler door releases???

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 18713651

Not a release. When you lock the car, the fuel filler door locks. When you unlock the car, the fuel filler door unlocks. There is a black plastic pin that locks/unlocks the fuel filler door.

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Yes and their is a cable inside the fender that you can get to with door open for release. Similar to the hood.

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I will check this and report back as soon as I can. I have the car stored temporarily in a warehouse. Thanks for suggestion.

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 18712706

I was finally able to remove the Alarm Control Module. ( My hand was too big to reach under and unplug the connectors). The fuse appears and test good. There is no sign of corrosion or water damage. Everything is good and dry. Any other ideas? Thank you!

POST 13Original post

Check the fuse that powers the alarm, look for damaged wires under the seat. Hopefully, your warehouse doesn't have any unwelcome tenants that enjoy snacking on wires
