Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
Having read several threads on the topic of Becker units, wondering if it is possibe to upgrade my cdr-23 with the Becker 7144 or 7141. With the optic fibre MOST connections is it still possible.?
I pretty much want to keep the stock look so after much thought not opting for the 7inch pioneer avic. Fancy the Becker Pro.
Any one done the upgrade on a 2003 or newer car without losing the air con?

Hi Alan,
re. losing the air con?
Do you mean physically or losing it's functionality? I seem to remember reading something about a CAN-BUS/MOST issue.

Hi,
Losing functionality. Apparently there is a hack but little concerned as want everything to work as is should.

Apparently a nice little trip to your local OPC is needed. They should be able connect their little computer to your car and 'switch off' the amp, stereo and CD. This should stop the car generating faults.
As far as losing the A/C all the evidence points to it not happening.

I too have been trying to figure out if I can upgrade my Porsche CDR23 to a Becker Cascade Pro 7941 (CD, Bluetooth for phone, Sat Nav and iPod option - all in single DIn package for £799), only to find that because the CDR23 is connected via the MOST bus I am screwed.
Becker tell me that the Cascade Pro is not MOST compliant and there is no interface. OPC want to sell me a PCM for £2400 plus VAT plus fitting (yeah right).
Surely there must be another way to get around this without having to bypass the Bose Amp and basically wire this unit in as a totally seperate installation.
If anyone has any ideas I would appreciate them.
Thanks
Mike

Mike,
You know about Standards and bus protocols right?? well here's the backround on MOST sound similar or an extension to CAN, which seems to be the standard for new in car Telematics also pay to drive etc... In fact also Airbus use it on the A380 and look how late that is !!
MOST bus: [Media Oriented Systems Transport],defines a multimedia fiber-optic (low overhead, low cost) point-to-point network implemented in a ring, star or daisy-chain topology over Plastic optical fibers [POF]. The MOST bus specifications define the Physical [Electrical and Optical parameters] Layer as well as the Application Layer, Network Layer, and Medium Access Control. The MOST bus provides an optical solution for automotive media [entertainment] networks [Video, CD..]
Take a look at
http://www.interfacebus.com/Design_Connector_Automotive.html
Good luck when you sort it you can tell the OPC what they should know !!
Cheers

Hi,
Been looking into this a bit more. Basically The Becker Cascasde will work in the 2003 MOSTbus cars but the in car telemetry will not be shown on the head unit as it is on the PCM 2. Is this correct??? Not a problem as it is available on the OBC.
Probably missing something.
A chap on PGB forum fitted the 2 din HD Poineer AVIC system to is pre 03 911. Looks the business. AIrcon unit in the normal PCM 2 positiion.

Alan, Becker told me that the Cascade Pro does not have fibre optic (MOST) connections and no one (yet) does an after-market converter so basically the options are:
1) Buy and upgrade to a Porsche PCM (very expensive - but may re-coup on resale)
2) have the Cascade hardwired to an Amp and then the speakers, bypassing the MOST system, although to do this seems an expensive project too (to do it right anyway).
Dension are doing a Gateway 500 which is supposed to take the MOST output and allow you to connect in the iPod and other auxillaries but I have not tried this nor do I know anyone that has.

Anyone wishing to know if their system is MOST will need to remove the radio and look for Orange cable connectors. If they are there then you are screwed (technical term).

If your car has a CDR 32 its most
if its a CDr 22 its good old fashioned non fibre optic and you can up grade and fit what you like
Migration info. Legacy thread was 122355
Excellent- I have a CDR 22 so I can upgrade away!
However, I like the CDR22 actually it seems to do everything I want, and the Bose thingy's good.

Damn, wish I hadn't googled Becker Cascade... I really want one now
The 7944 has TMC which is very good, and also has routing functions such as 'Sporty'
