Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

That might not be a 12V constant source, since doesn't the audio system illumination (buttons/knobs) change with the instrument panel lighting brightness?

Suggestion

If it's the footwell, that might work, but I'd suggest using an LED so as to not overtax the circuit.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

What color wire is for illumination in the audio connector? I'm installing a Mr.12volt/Rennkit Bluetooth adapter & I want to tap the harness to run a light into my footwell.

POST 2Original post

That might not be a 12V constant source, since doesn't the audio system illumination (buttons/knobs) change with the instrument panel lighting brightness? Are you powering the Bluetoof adaptor or the footwell? If it's the footwell, that might work, but I'd suggest using an LED so as to not overtax the circuit.

POST 3Original post

I haven't started pulling anything apart yet for the Bluetooth adapter until I knew what I was doing. I also wanted to by an assortment of Posi-tap connectors. I used to have a handy automotive circuit tester, but I can't seem to find it. It had a wire with alligator clip for hooking to ground, a needle tip to slightly pierce wire insulation, & a neon bulb in the clear handle. I've since gotten some direction (through YouTube videos & attached image) that the #4 terminal (yellow wire) is constant 12V, the #8 terminal (brown wire) is ground & the illumination terminal (??? color wire) supposedly resides between them. I was looking for confirmation & a definitive answer for the color of that wire. The footwell bulb I plan on using is a small, low wattage incandescent. Whether or not it is dimmable isn't an issue, but if it turns out that it's always on, I've got an illuminated on/off switch to install under the dash.
