I used a trim tool to pry some trim and seals enough to run the wire back to the engine compartment.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hello Yes you read correct! I've assembled a spotlight (a small working led lamp bar) under the rear "diffuser". I need to find some kind of power outlet in the rear trunk area). I don't have any other led installed why I can't use any of the rear lamp's power. Does anybody know where you can connect this spot easy? It will be activated with a separate switch. Thanks in advance

POST 2Original post

Where will the switch be? That would determine where to get power. It isn't that hard to run wires back to the bumper. I power my backup camera from the fuse panel (instead of taping into the backup lights) so I can have it on whenever I want. Should be the same for an LED light bar (just a little heavier AWG wire.

POST 3Original post

The switch will be located between the seats. Somewhere near one of the cigarette lighters. The front probably. So that can be the best source of power. But I'm not too comfortable with dismantling the interior too extensively. Do you know if it is easy to dismantle the console between the seats? That is to connect the cables/switch to the front lighter? I don't smoke and will only use the led light bar when the engine is running.

POST 4Original post

It's been several years since I removed my center console to install shifter cables - so I'm a little rusty. I'd search for instructions or videos on either replacing the shifter or cables to see how it is done. I wouldn't call it difficult once you see how they all connect. To give you a general (as opposed to detailed) idea of what's involved: you need to remove the side panels of the center instrument cluster first. That will expose some screws at the front of the console. Then the shifter boot needs to be removed. Not sure how to do that if auto trans. Under the hand brake handle, there is a cover that needs to be pried off to get to a screw. In the console storage compartment you take out the rubber mat to expose several screws that hold the rear of the console down. IIRC you can then lift center console up and out of the way. Careful of the wires to the cig lighter and the seat bealt light. Warning - do not start the engine when the seat belt light is disconnected. It will throw a code that must be cleared manually. IDK if you have a Cayman or Boxster. To get to my camera (installed above the rear license plate) I just ran the wires under carpet over to the side (drivers in my case but just as easy to do the other. I used a trim tool to pry some trim and seals enough to run the wire back to the engine compartment. Had to remove engine cover and some trunk carpet. Also removed a tail light to get the cable down inside the bumper cover. I'm sure I forgot something but this is the gist of the process.

POST 5Original post

Thanks for a detailed how to. I read something similar at renntech regarding the center console. Now I think I have enough info to complete this project. Thanks alot.
