Long time lurker, first time poster - hope y'all are having a good new year
Title says most all of it - the XM started not working/only receiving signal sometimes about a week ago. The message on the
PCM
says "Check XM Antenna." Sometimes while out and about it will play music for 3-5 seconds then lose connection again.
I already removed the
PCM
and checked to make sure the antenna connection on the back was tight (even removed it and re-attached it, pretty sure it's the yellow plug but did the blue one too), but i'm not sure where exactly in the car the wire is routed up to the roof aerial or what else may be the issue. Any ideas how to properly troubleshoot? Is there a fuse for the antenna I should be checking? Would like to trace the exact issue before I drop $100 on a new roof antenna and another $125 to get it pained to match body color. All other audio sources are working fine, and I already did a
PCM
reset (vehicle handover) which didn't change anything.
I do have a multimeter, but I'm not sure what current the wire should be and not sure how to get at the roof aerial without really mangling the headliner.
Any suggestions appreciated, thanks in advance!
What?
@Frank-7
- you're starting to sound like a BOT - with senseless replies to posts. I'm removing ALL your replies that make no sense. If you're trying to get enough posts done so you can PM people - that's not going to work, you're on my radar..
OP - the antenna is pretty much standard, and you can probably buy one from Sirius. They use a micro-G type connector, and feed the power down the same coax that the signal returns on. What I'd suggest is getting one, and hooking it up and simply putting it on the dash for now and see if that solves the issue. If it does, you can make the decision on putting it where the existing one is located, or simply velcro it to the dash. Mine uses the actual Sirius/XM module - and it's mounted in the far right corner of the dash and it generally works fine there.
Getting it painted is going to cost $100 minimum if you're lucky enough to find a body shop doing that color paint on a bigger project (like a bumper cover or body damage repair.) If they have to buy the paint for just the antenna - it will be several times more, the paint isn't cheap and there is a minimum size it comes in (I think 1 Pint or so..)
There are a few places that will custom match spray paint and clearcoat based on the manufacturer's name of the color on the car (paint code is best) - that will run you around $40 for base and clearcoat...
Good luck and let us know how it works out for you.
BTW - welcome to Planet-9, the Friendly Porsche Forum. When you have a chance, please visit

Thanks for the reply - I honestly forgot about this post as i've already fixed the issue (also I think I put it in the wrong forum, should be in 981 not 987 - my apologies).
I did buy the OEM aerial and plugged it in temporarily to test, and the signal came back right away. Luckily the Cayman had already been in my local body shop due to a not-so-touchless touchless car wash poking a hole in my front bumper cover, so they had the paint code already. $125 for paint, a few hours of cleaning the old foam/adhesive off the top of the car, and now it's good as new
I'll head over to new members and post some pictures here in a sec. Thanks again!
