Hey everyone, I know head unit swaps are difficult because of the MOST for our cars but what about an Amp switch or Speaker switch? Still the same problem with MOST? Just asking because I have a JL 500/5 amp which I picked up for my mercedes but I sold it so now its sitting doing nothing and it would be sweet if I could use it
I'm not sure how the Bose amp is hooked up, but if it is one box that outputs to all the speakers in the car, you can cut the speaker cables after the Bose has amplified them, use Line-output converters to convert them to line level signals that you can input into the JL500/5, use the 5th channel for powering the nd woofers, and the power the four mid's and 2 tweeters (they're already on crossover with the front mids) with the remaining four channels; simply use the existing speaker cables for delivering the audio to the speakers. However, like I said, I don't have experience with the Bose amp, and I'm not sure if one unit powers all speakers; I do know for sure each speaker is connected with copper wires, not fibreoptics, but the path from the headunit to the amplifier is fiber.
If you have sound package plus, it's much harder, the only place to get an input signal is right out of the headunit because it's the only place a full range signal exists. Also, you can't use existing speaker cables because some originate from the headunit and go to speakers, others originate at the ASK amplifier in the front boot; basically you have to do new wiring and if you're doing that you might as well do new speakers.

Bose May Use 2ohm speakers
I'm not so sure but I think that Bose uses 2ohm speakers and most car systems use 4ohm.

I'm pretty certain the JBL 500.5 is stable down to 2 ohms, at least on the lfe channel but should be alright on all.
