This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion

Well, I would obviously like to change the HU out but I really don't mind the sound of the bose, so to keep it simple, I want to figure out how to take an aftermarket HU and integrate it into the bose system.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Hi Everyone- I'm a new owner and it seems I should have done more homework on the bose system before taking the Cayman with that option. The salesman told me that the head unit would play MP3 CDs and I am confident about an IPod option, so I figured with the relatively good sound of the bose (for OEM), it was a nice option. For once, I wanted to purchase a car without having to endure an 85hr custom install (I do everything myself...if anyone is interested, I'll tell you about my TL). Well, it turns out that the MP3 CD feature isn't an option and to make it worse...there's this thing called the MOST bus. Well, I would obviously like to change the HU out but I really don't mind the sound of the bose, so to keep it simple, I want to figure out how to take an aftermarket HU and integrate it into the bose system. I think the key doing that is at the amplifier, obviously not in the MOST bus itself. But I haven't done much research yet. Some quick thoughts about the Pioneer AVIC Z1 (A lot of people are talking about using it)...it has an optical output to an optional signal processor on the back. Any chance that optical output is compatible with the fiber in the Cayman? If not, what comes out the other end of that Pioneer signal processor? Perhaps that would provide an interface to the bose amp? I'm going to keep doing research as I get the time...I'll keep regretting the bose (it was way against my better judgement), and I'll report back if I find out anything. Any thoughts out there?

As soon as you figure anything out, you will quickly become a hero on this site, good luck. I too am regreting buying the Bose, the whole audio set up in the Cayman is poor in my opinion and seriously limits your options.
