Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

During last service it was noted that there's a slight leak from the gearbox selector shaft. I was told it's a gearbox out and rebuild job to replace a £4 seal? surely not?! Just when it feels like I fixed almost everything...

POST 2Original post

unfortunately it's the only way to resolve that issue

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I was told to live with it - how does that work? top up transmission oil? Mind you, I didn't even notice it leaking - my driveway is spotless, no sign of it.

POST 4Original post

cvega - Unfortunately the little brass sleeve in the lever housing is an engineering fail. I have the same issue. Slow drip or leak that will muck up the case a little. I found the transmission oil will smell after it gets nice and hot. Check the oil level every few thousand miles and top off until I need to drop the ***** for a rebuild, which is soon…second gear wear and pop out is becoming more prominent.

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I've no issues with gears and no visible leak on the drive. I will drive it like this for a while before i go in for a rebuild.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

What gearbox oil to people use? Is something like Motul Gear 300 75w-90 suitable or any other recommendations? reCAPTCHA Verification

POST 7Original post

I would recommend the Porsche Classic Oil, the Motul is worse while the gearbox is cold (in my car). Warm, no difference.

That stuff is absolute garbage, horrid shifts. They do a semi-synth that is meant to be very good according to Slippydiff on here. MOTUL MOTYLGEAR 75W-90 - Motul MOTUL MOTYLGEAR 75W-90 Specially recommended for gearboxes which are hard to shift and/or noisy gearboxes. All mechanical transmissions, synchron www.motul.com If not I would only use PTX 75w90. Redline non lsd is OK as well, but no where near as nice a clunk into gear as PTX.
