Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

Can a Non PCM play mp3 cds from Itunes? I am not sure if it does? any one tried it ? Thanks

POST 2Original post

No. Isn't that stupid? You need PCM or install an aftermarket kit.

POST 3Original post

I just have the stock stereo that comes with the 07 CS. Is it possible for me to get mp3 support using the cd-changer input or some other solution (that does not involve major changes - I want to keep my car as close to stock as possible.). Thanks!

POST 4Original post

Not exactly sure what you're asking. If you mean a CD burned with iTunes AAC files as a DATA disc, then no. There is no car CD player out there that will do that as iTunes music is encrypted. If you mean a CD burned with iTunes AAC files as CD AUDIO, then yes, both PCM and non-PCM systems will play it.

POST 5Original post

...Not really true. Music purchased from the iTunes store is encrypted... Music simply encoded as AAC is not. However, I don't know of any car player out there that plays AAC files. iTunes can burn MP3 discs though if your music is originally in MP3 format (as opposed to AAC). This rules out music purchased from the store. I think the question being asked, is simply if the non-PCM player plays MP3 CDs.

POST 6Original post

So what is the answer to the question? I am taking delivery of my Cayman within the next week and I too would like to know if the non-PCM Bose system will play an MP3 disc. Not anything that is encrypted... just plain MP3's. I hope so! Brad

POST 8Original post

I agree that it's shameful considering the price of the CS or any Porsche for that matter... MP3 compatability and sattelite radio should be standard... As high-tech as Porsche makes their vehicles, they sure are behind the times with the modern ammenities...

POST 9Original post

So no aftermarket fix for this so far? Anything in the pipeline? I have the non-bose stock system for the CS.

POST 10Original post

Interpol is correct. If you use the Itunes feature to output your ITunes files to a CD they will play on the in dash player and the 6 disc cd changer. I don't know what I did or what settings I used but I burned them from within ITunes to a cd and they play with no problem. That being said the highest quality sound I get is from regular cds. Personally I think you lose a noticable amount of sound quality when you use MP3s. That's been my experience in the car system and home stereo I have used to play MP3s. They seem fine with headphones but not over a stereo.

POST 11Original post

What you did was create an "audio cd" from itunes, not an MP3 cd. An audio cd will only hold 10-15 songs, and MP3 cd will hold significantly more.

POST 12Original post

If you have iTunes and play AAC files I would presume that you own an iPod. An easy solution to take your mp3s with you (whether AAC or Mp3) is to hook up your iPod to the system. I will be doing that myself. I have looked all over and found this to be the best one out there - http://www.dension.com/icelinkgateway500.php Just check it out. Instead of spending pot load of money on some other after market stuff this would be a great one time investment! Hope I helped to some degree!

POST 13Original post

Good find. Dension unit looks promise. All I want is a storage of 4GB mp3 without the bulky cd changer and move parts.

POST 14Original post

hmm... it said "CD Changer is a main condition of the usage of Gateway 500". Does that mean it need "692 - Remote CD Changer"?

POST 15Original post

Don't think it needs the CD Changer in place. I emailed the Denison support and asked them detailed infos about it and they mentiond nothing about a Cd Changer presence. Plus if you look at the website you can see the Fibre Optic Cable has two inputs for the Cd Changer and the Head Unit. So I guess you can work without a Cd Changer.
