I just looked at a whole bunch of C-GT pictures on Google images, and it looks to me like they used a very dark gray on the insides of the headlight buckets, not a true, rich black.

Suggestion

Personally, I like the way they look as stock - the entire light becomes a design element that set off the front of the fenders - on my car, which is black, the stock look gives a nice contrast with all the chrome.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Has anyone considered painting the inside areas of the headlights black ? (not the reflective areas that help reflect the light) It would give it kind of a Carrera GT look? Thoughts?? Quick & Dirty Photoshop... Edited by - johnb21 on 09/02/2006 3:40:24 PM

POST 8Original post

There is a guy on the Mitusubishi Evolution site that has been doing both head and tail lights. The quality is very good. I purchased a set of tail lights and was impressed. Here is his link... http://www.lightmods.net/ Here is an example... Edited by - crocrr on 09/03/2006 3:34:08 PM

POST 9Original post

Very nice. Does any one know how easy opening a Cayman 's lights would be??

POST 10Original post

not sure abt cayman headlights, but i have openend sti and also audi healights to paint. i put them i the oven at a fairly low temp and then pulled them apart. cannot remember what the temp was or the length they were in there, but i am sure porshe will be different due to different apoxy etc. For what it's worth, my subaru healights came out great, just have to be careful sealing them up.

POST 11Original post

The RK headlight has totally blacked out the High Beam reflector. I am not sure what that will do to the overall illumination. I just wonder if they came stock blacked out, would everyone go ga-ga over the clear?

POST 12Original post

They ran out of time and will have to do it next week for me. Sorry I agree on the RK...too much black. I am only painting the areas that are not there to reflect the projection of the beam. On the 'black' vs 'clear' from the factory, just look around... Porsche Carrera GT, Lambos, Ferraris all have black housings. I love the look. It will really set the front off nicely. I will get pics as soon as they do it.

POST 13Original post

i've been waiting to see how they come out.. good luck with this project

POST 14Original post

Next week for sure. They will have the car all week while I am out of town for the lights and for lowering.

POST 15Original post

Here is a very rough Photoshop that I using to show what parts I want painted black and which parts will remain chrome. Thoughts? Edited by - johnb21 on 09/24/2006 1:03:48 PM

POST 16Original post

Personally, I like the way they look as stock - the entire light becomes a design element that set off the front of the fenders - on my car, which is black, the stock look gives a nice contrast with all the chrome. On your car, which is seal gray, if you do this, I would consider doing it in a dark gray color like the RK. With the gray of your car, the large patches of a much darker hue, in this case the black, might really call too much attention to the headlights and not blend in quite like you intend... kind of like your car having two black eyes... just a thought. I just looked at a whole bunch of C-GT pictures on Google images, and it looks to me like they used a very dark gray on the insides of the headlight buckets, not a true, rich black. See below... brad Edited by - beez on 09/24/2006 1:21:14 PM Edited by - beez on 09/24/2006 1:31:22 PM

POST 17Original post

They are going to match the C-GT color. I believe it is matte black like the RK. It just looks dark grey since it is a matte finish.

POST 18Original post

I think the darkened headlights look good, but I wonder how would they look painted in body color.

POST 19Original post

I thought about that. You see it on the new Vettes and some Ferraris. It would look good as well, but I think I am going with the matte black.

POST 20Original post

john, i have seal gray too and would love to see any before and after pics if you have any! thanks, justin

POST 21Original post

Should have it done and have pics posted by Friday.

POST 23Original post

They were going to do this when they lowered it as well but the springs did not get in the shop in time and then they got tied up with the Petit Lemans at the end of the week. I am out of town the next 3 weeks so I am not sure when were are doing this now unfortunately. Edited by - johnb21 on 10/02/2006 04:12:33 AM

POST 24Original post

I'd like to lower my car also- which spings are you going to use? Did they estimate labor? seems like the springs are the cheap part and the 8 hour job is the killer.
