Also great to see the weights compared (When mine were fitted I didn't get the weights taken).

Hard to say if I've lost out in the low and mid; I'd also be reluctant to say I've made any tangible gains at the top end; what I can say is that there is still 'Enough" low down to be a pleasure to drive but the whole 'Zingy" nature of the 3.4 has been magnified and I'd say I probably use more revs and wider throttle openings generally just to enjoy the sound and in doing so probably masking any losses I might now have.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all
I thought I would pull together an ownership thread for my 996; some of you may have already seen my video blogs but maybe a thread here would be useful as I'm learning a lot and also trying to share useful info on the projects.
The trailer!

I got the car just before Christmas so I am approximately 4 months into ownership – I must say I really love the simplicity of the 996 and getting another again has taken a lot of attention away from my other cars.
I've a video blog of progress. The YouTube channel isn't a commercial page - just a hobby. If you enjoy the content please like & subscribe as that moves it up the results pages, helps others find it and helps my channel rating :thumb:
So here is what I have been up to in a simple run down:
***Edit I've removed the video links as with the amount of them it was getting a bit silly - please just follow the channel link in the footer instead!

Hi Rob
I too have been following yr videos with interest. Very nicely put together (videos and car)
I have a particular interest having recently gone very similar route (although mine was already built for me
)
Love the 996.1 aero..
Keep up the good work !
A black to contrast yr white (with my boy enjoying a ride out - pre-lockdown) :worship:
All the best - stay safe !
thank you!
thank you!!
thank you!!!
I really appreciate the positive comments.
It has crossed my mind that i'm a bit of a mad man - quite frankly I'm talking to myself on video in my garage!
Stumbled across your channel round about the time you posted the stereo upgrade. Enjoy your videos and always good to see some 996 appreciation from someone who owns/owned other 911s
Hi Rob,
I too have been following your videos and will have to admit one of them inspired me to also go for the Rennline gear knob so thanks for that!
Oh, and also a fellow Aerokit owner, this time in Arctic Silver.
Keep up the good work! I look forward to seeing what you do next!
Hi, enjoying the content, many thanks! Do you use a long reach low profile jack?
Have you considered removing clutch helper spring, gives clutch a nice meaty feel.
Any thoughts on a cheap Cup style electric steering pump using vaux parts?
Been a while since i update this but i just got my Top gear exhaust fitted from the group buy - very happy!!!

I'll update the first post with the latest links
Hi Rob. Just watched your entertaining video on the exhaust & fitting. It was especially interesting to compare and contrast your rear boxes (Mild) with mine (Sport) and your crossover cats with my x-pipe. Also great to see the weights compared (When mine were fitted I didn't get the weights taken). Circa 11.4kgs weight saving over factory!? That's huge! I think like you I've found the car to be noticeably more free revving and again like yours has a Jekyll & Hyde character to the sound. I'd say mine is slightly louder at part throttle but certainly not (To me) intrusive and perfectly fine for normal level conversation at motorway speeds. I'd be surprised if our two cars are radically different at cruising speed / throttle openings.
That said when Mr. Hyde pops in with high rpm the sound is absolutely immense! I'd say that the x-pipe has made the exhaust sound 'Wail" a lot more with a real 'Bwaaaaaaah!" Soundtrack. The engine seems to be better able to breath at high rpm too, no longer (or sounding) breathless as it hits the limiter. As you mention I've needed to recalibrate my senses since the engine spins up so much more readily as it nears the red line there isn't the same sense of 'I'm running out of puff, time to change up" that the car used to have. Ok it's not as rev hungry as a 9000rpm GT3 but it is noticeably freer than before.
Regarding the torque? Hard to say if I've lost out in the low and mid; I'd also be reluctant to say I've made any tangible gains at the top end; what I can say is that there is still 'Enough" low down to be a pleasure to drive but the whole 'Zingy" nature of the 3.4 has been magnified and I'd say I probably use more revs and wider throttle openings generally just to enjoy the sound and in doing so probably masking any losses I might now have.
It'd be great to be able to meet up and compare some time. Are you planning to be at Beaulieu this year?
Ps. Loving the YouTube channel!
I'm using an SGS jack - this one

Haven't considered the ideas you suggest but will take a look
it certainly would be interesting to hear a few options side by side / back to back as that is the only real way to note the difference!
+ adamw,
I'm not booked on for Beaulieu at the moment but that might change now i know a few are going .
+a1topdog,
Thanks for the complements on the channel guys - good to know i'm not the only mad 996 owner out there and that i have an audience greater than one
