However, in case of tire damage such as cuts, punctures, cracks or sidewall bulges that cause a single tire to be replaced for safety reasons, the remaining matching tire on that axle must not exceed 30 percent wear.

Both times thetires were replaced, no questions asked, and I paid nothing.

During that same time frame we bought my wife a new Lexus where they did quickly offer the same (?) policy and after reading it where it stated that their objective was to fix the tire (rather than replace) -- I declined for the Lexus and have not pushed the issue with the Porsche dealer.

Now Lexus doesn't seem to have the same suggestions that a tire be replaced so I would not have a factory manual to back up a replacement request -- as I would with the Cayman.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Good topic for discussion. I have a center thread puncture with a slow leak. Here is the problem. I bought a $700 road hazard tire and wheel policy. The insurance company will not replace the tire because they say a center thread puncture can be repaired. My dealership TISCHER Porsche Silver Spring Maryland agreed the tire could be repaired. To my understand speed rated tires should not be repaired only replaced. The service manager at ROCKVILLE Porsche in Maryland states that under no circumstance would they repair these tires (Michelin Sport Pilots). I was even told a Porsche service bulletin states that these tires should not be repaired. This insurance policy will not honor Porsche recommended standards. Worst of all my Porsche dealer has bought into this non-sense.

for endangering life and property in the event of a future failure. Get your lawyer to draft something using the Cayman manual with quotes like this '
Have tires replaced by a specialist workshop as soon as possible
' (page 224). Call the Tire Rack and ask for thier help with tips on arguing your case. And do not be shy about asking to talk to the General Manager of the dealership and pressing the issue. Ask him/her if the insurance was merely 'dealer profit' or provided for the protection of the customer.
Also remember this: '
Tires should be replaced no less than in pairs on one axle at a time. Only tires of the same tire make and type must be used. However, in case of tire damage such as cuts, punctures, cracks or sidewall bulges that cause a single tire to be replaced for safety reasons, the remaining matching tire on that axle must not exceed 30 percent wear. If the remaining tire has more than 30 percent wear from new, it should also be replaced. Handling inconsistencies may result if this is not done.'
I guess we should all consider cuting the sidewall when we get a puncture like this.....

I had to replace two tires. Luckily I puchased the tireinsurance when I bought my CS also. Both times thetires were replaced, no questions asked, and I paid nothing. Santa Fe is correct, doesn't matter where the hole is, the tire must be replaced.

AtlasGCayman, re:

Sounds like you need a refund from a worthless insurance policy...
I would also try and contact Michelin and get their recomendations.I would be surprised if in a car that can be driven at 170 mph that they would say a repair is ok.
I would do as Santa Fe says, and then take the folks to small claims court. That way they would have to send someone there or lose. Then you may get two tires!! Loss of time, etc.
I'm really surprised by this, because as I mentioned earlier, I had no trouble replacing two tires within a month of each other. It was easy as pie, and my P-car dealer certainly helped make it easy in terms of picking the car up (they are in a town about 35 miles south of the town I live in), and then delivering it back to me in a timely fashion (All Pro Imports in Ocala, Florida). Is there more than one insurance company providing the tire coverage for Porsche owners, or are there several? Perhaps they are finding out they can't turn a profit in this business because the soft, fat, high performance tires get flats so easily. My insurance has already paid for itself in six months.
Tony
Oddly enough I was detailing the car for the Porsche event in Santa Fe this weekend and found a nail in the right rear. I called Porsche Roadside and they are sending a flatbed out now to take the car to Albuquerque for replacement under my Olymipicare road hazard warranty. All sounds at this point like it is working as expected. I will follow up when the car returns.
(why is this in the electronics section?)
I am wondering if they have decided they aren't making enough money to make it worthwhile. After reading about the tire insurance on this forum (after I bought the Cayman), I went back to my salesman and asked him about it. He told me that he was not totally familiar with the coverage but would ask the business manager to contact me and give me the details. When I saw him a couple of weeks later he asked if I had heard anything, when I told him no he said that he would ask the business manager once again to contact me. During that same time frame we bought my wife a new Lexus where they did quickly offer the same (?) policy and after reading it where it stated that their objective was to fix the tire (rather than replace) -- I declined for the Lexus and have not pushed the issue with the Porsche dealer.

Guess I am agreeing with LA Boy that maybe the Porsche dealers (at least mine) are not so sold on this anymore as a money making option.
Try and see if you can get the folks at TISCHER to agree in writing that the tire won't fail as a result of the patch of the slow leak.....
you accepted the terms of the insurance policy so you have to accept them. I ignored the insurance offered for tyres as you can insure for virtually anything and you dont need to IMHO
Uh...yes you did...but you got responses anyway so be happy nobody flamed you. /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/regular_smile.gif Oh and I agree with SF 100%. If they won't budge, take them to Judge Judy. She'll fix it. /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/thumbsup.gif
You bought the same policy, I believe, that I did. Note that its is NOT a Porsche policy nor a Tischer policy but rather Mile One. Mile One owns all kinds of dealership (e.g., BMW).
The policy clearly states it will repair tires. It also says it will replace it if it is not repairable. Since the policy crosses dealerships and I would as others said and point out page 224 of the policy that says to Replace the tire (no mention of repairing it).
I would NOT have the tire reparied but bear the burden of the cost of the time and go argue with MILE ONE that this is a Porsche, not a BMW, Audi, VW, Chevy or whatever and the manual clearly states the tire is to be replaced.
Best of LUCK!
