Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi All, Just been out in the 996.1 C2 and when I got back and was parking in the garage, I noticed a tiny amount of oil on the floor under the Turbo S. After further investigation it looks like the tiny oil reservoir, under the drivers side Turbo, is leaking from the hex-plug. Should I just nip it up, and drive it, or could it be more serious? Probably no more than a half a thimble of oil. Photos attached. IceBoy

POST 2Original post

Clean it and then go for a drive. Come back to it and see if you can trace the leak. Once you can be reasonably certain where the oil is coming from then fix that. It may not be the sump plug.

POST 3Original post

I'd bet on a pipe leaking but as above wipe it off and go for a drive.

POST 4Original post

That looks like the pipe rather than the hex plug to me. But as above. MC

POST 5Original post

To me and i'll agree with the above .. i think it's the pipe .. Can i also just say .. that's not a leak . At best that's a sweat and not worth trying to get that pipe out and replace it . 10 litres of oil aint suddenly going to gush out from that .. obviously if you want to fix it then that's fine .. i'm just humbly trying to point out its not broke and as such doesn't need fixing atm

POST 6Original post

Just to echo what DeMort is saying, ive just had all that stuff off and if yours i similar to mine that pipe connector will be absolutely solidly corroded into the sump. At that point your only option is to cut and replace the whole pipe along with all the oil that comes out. Those pipes vary in price between £130 and £170 each. Could give the pipe a tweak with a spanner and see if it feels like it will move, if not give it a wipe and keep an eye on levels

POST 7Original post

Hi saw your post about the 996 turbo oil reservoir and leak.etc. I've got a similar situation where there is small drops of oil leaking what looks like above the turbocharger oil collector/ sump. Looking at the pipework looks like the connectors are corroded. Where did you have your work completed if I can ask ?
