Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

You mentioned the passenger side turbo, should I check the intercooler pipe.

Suggestion
If who ever changed the oil didn’t drain it from both the sump and the tank then you could see how it’s potentially been over filled.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi
Please help.
My 996tt has been overfilled at a recent oil change by 1.9 litres, and have driven it 90 miles since the oil change. I have noticed the boost fall from 08. to 0.5
Can the overfill damage my engine, what can I check?
Any advice appreciated.
Hi
I have drained it. It was 1.5 litres. I drove it 80 miles from the garage noticed the gauge and drained 1,5 litres.
Would this have caused any damage, where can I check if it has?
Advice appreciated.
Unlikely. It’s a dry sump and has a lot of oil in the whole system, 9 litres + , so 1.5l isn’t a lot relatively speaking, Also a fair bit lives in the oil tank, obviously circulating. The engine will pump it around, it can’t pump more than the pump’s capacity. If who ever changed the oil didn’t drain it from both the sump and the tank then you could see how it’s potentially been over filled. What did the gauge read then?
Hi Senoj,
Its a bar gauge and it read over the final bar. My local mechanic popped over and he removed 200 mil at a time just to be safe and did this 7 or 8 times (1.5 litres) until the level was maximum.
As others have said the 996t has a full dry sump system so the question is how much spare room is there in the remote oil tank. The top of the tank has baffles and is part of the breather system. If it was too full I imagine oil would get sucked into the breather system which vents into the suction pipe of the passenger side turbo. If this was to happen you'd have clouds of blue smoke. As you not mentioned this happening I think you've got away with it!
Thanks Mac996t. Are there any pipes I should remove to check if they have oil. You mentioned the passenger side turbo, should I check the intercooler pipe. Sorry total novice.
I’d be getting the garage that overfilled it to collect the car from you. They will need to clean all the intake pipes etc. Best to leave it to them in case there is any damage.
