With the separate speaker, you can put it under the dash where you can hear it and independantly adjust just the phone volume on the IHF1000.

This kit, like most of them, uses the antenna built into the phone itself, so, taking Porsche literally at what the manual says, they're really saying you can't use your cell phone inside your Cayman, nonsense.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I had one in a M-B that I owned before and it worked perfectly, my only pet peeve was that the installer couldn't locate a Radio Mute Wire (Yellow) or an Audio Plus wire(Orange) or Audio Negative wire (Blue) to utilize the existing speakers in the car.
Since I am not sure if you can get any type of Porsche factory Bluetooth system for the Cayman S, I've decided to install a Motorola IHF1000 Bluetooth Car kit in my Cayman. It's a mid June delivery car so I still have time to figure out how to install this system. I wound up having to use the external speaker that came with the unit. My car has the Bose system in it. Does anyone out there know if the Bose system in the Cayman S has a radio mute wire as well as audio positive and negative wires to access. Lastly, how does the radio come out. Does Porsche have some special tool like Audi or M-B or are they sensible and provide you with a tool of your own to slide the radio out with. Any assistance would be kindly appreciated. Thanks.
I doubt it has any kind of input. I'd use the speaker that came with the kit.
I'm thinking of installing a bluetooth car kit in my car too. My primary concern is to hide it well (including the control thing)...
I had a sony erricson in my previous car (the HCB 300) and it worked okay... I have no experience with other brands... so perhaps others can post their comments/experiences here.

If your worried about the look and placement od the IHF1000 control panel, no sweat as it is fairly small and it's attractive looking. It won't take anything away from the look of the interior. I have a June delivery, I'll post some pictures of the install after I get the car.
From the manual

'The antennas for all radios and telephones with a transmitting antenna must be externally mounted. The improper installation of radios or telephones or use of a radio or telephone with a transmitting antenna inside the car may cause the warning lights to come on'

Are you not concerned that Porsche says specifically not to use and antenna inside the car (BT will use the antenna on your cell phone)?
Also consider that the Cayman is not the quietest car. I've had friends tell me that my car is loud while using my mobile phone. An omni-directional mic. may pick up too much cockpit noise. Or maybe my phone is too sensitive.
Just my 2 cents.
Seriously speaking, I think what Porsche wrote in the manual rates right up there with the tags they put on the pillows in the bedroom that say do not remove......... As most cell phones transmit at about 1 watt or less, I really doubt that will be a problem, but I will soon find out. If it does, I'll let you folks know.

One last tidbit of information regarding the Porsche manual and what it states regarding the use of cell phones and the mouting of outside antennas. The specific Motorola kit I've been talking about does not have its own dedicated antenna. This kit, like most of them, uses the antenna built into the phone itself, so, taking Porsche literally at what the manual says, they're really saying you can't use your cell phone inside your Cayman, nonsense. I don't understand how the use of the cell phone regardless of whether it has its own antenna or you use a separate antenna should not make any difference since thewarning lightsthey refer toare activated by an electronic input from whatever device in the car is failing, whereas, any antenna utilizes a given frequency, so, one thing operates in a completely different spectrum than the other ie; there is no correlation between the two devices, electrically speaking, or at least there shouldn't be. Lastly, has anyone ever heard of any similar warning from any other car manufacturer? I am very curious regarding this issue since I asked my wife who has a PHD in Electrical Engineering (I'm not trying to brag) it's just that the answer I got was from someone in the field with 25 years experience.
I hope you find out because we use the MOT1000 now (Not in a Porsche) and the unit rocks. I would find it a huge step backwards NOT to use such a BT unit. Everything voice activated ... no messing with dial pads, etc.
I like to find the answer to this. We are deciding on which car to buy. I dont know how noisy ... noisy is. I can say this, we have a MOT 1000 is a MCS with a Borla Race exhaust, very loud, especially with the SC whine and the MOT 1000 works perfectly.
However, the issue about what the manual says .... anyone using a cell phone in their cars with no ill effects?
I have that exact setup. The motorola kit interfaces with the PCM or standard radio, Bose or not, just like all previous Porsche radios. You can get a phone kit from Becker directly that has the correct pins and instructions on where the pins go both for mute and audio in from the moto kit.
I decided to use the Motorola speaker instead of the audio in as I had that on a 996 and the sound only comes from one radio speaker and I had to crank up the volume to hear the phone which left the radio way too loud when the phone call was over. With the separate speaker, you can put it under the dash where you can hear it and independantly adjust just the phone volume on the IHF1000.
Although the Motorola IHF1000 Bluetooth has worked well in all my other vehicles there maybe an even better solution that that. In the next 3 weeks, Garmin is coming out with a color GPS that fits very weel and works superably in the Cayman. The deivce is called the Garmin Nuvi model 360. This is a combination of a GPS talking navigation system as well as having an integral Bluetooth system which allows you to hook up your Bluettoth equipped cell phone to oerate thru the garmin Nuvi 360, hence, it gives you voice activated color GPS which is correctly sized for the Cayman and mounts via a suction cup to the front windshield and allows you to hookup up your Bluetooth capable cell phone thru it and dial out using the key pad display contained in the software within the Garmin GPS, thereby eliminating the needs to add another kit and wiring etc.. I should have mine in about 2 or 3 weeks, I will provide a report and pictures as to its functionality etc. when used in our Cayman's. Just as an aside, the Motorola IHF1000 is a very fine Bluetooth product which has served me well in my other vehicles and my guess is it would work well in the Cayman. I will keep the rest of your folks posted when I receive my Garmin unit. Laslty, I ordered it from the
www.thegpsstore.com
on line. You might want to check it out at their web-site.
regards, riamga
riamga, check out the Pro Clip mounting system for the 360. The Nuvi is small enough that it doesn't interfer with a passenger and gets the unit off the window.

I had a Parrot bluetooth system installed in my Cayman by an audio speciatlist. It utilizes a muting system contained in my Bose system and mutes the speakers when a call comes in or if I dial out. In fact in has voice activated dialing. I use a Blackberry cell phone. Parrot system works great.
I just got the MOT 1000 installed
WOOT ... BT rocks!
Yeah, its safer NOT to use a phone in a car but cell phones are ubiquitous and not going away anytime soon.
pvpham ... the sound quality is excellent. I had a MOT 1000 in our MINI and knew exactly how good it is. I had it 'professionally' installed because I wasn't going to touch porsche electronics. We just came back from a drive, called home ... even sounded good on the answering machine
Dave ... the mike is a tiny thing tucked up under the headliner near the mirror, you can barely see anything. Speaker is tucked under the driver dash area. The only thing you see is the controller, pic below. Riamaga had his a bit lower but I put it a bit higher to see it. Its much smaller than appears in the pic. I was a bit concerned the crease in the dash on the passenger side is for the airbag but I dont think for the drivers side. Sitting behind the wheel in its normal place, you can barely see it.
