Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

21 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1Original post

HI I am thinking of buying a battery maintainer, and recall seeing a post on this board that gave a link to a distrubitor that sold them much less than if I buy it from Porsche. Searched the site and can't find it . Help PLEASE!!!!! tia Joe Parisi Salem Ma

POST 2Original post

It is the CTEK Charger you are looking for. It's rebadged & sold as a Porsche part for over $120.00, but I got one for $50.00 on the net.

POST 3Original post

C-Tek charger I got my C-Tek charger at www.apexperformance.net . Free shipping. Arrived in one day (I guess PA is close enough to MD that FedEx ground was quick).

POST 4Original post

Try a Black and Decker VEC080BD 2 AMP Battery Charger I bought a Black and Decker VEC080BD 2 AMP Battery Charger from Walmart for under $30. It comes with various battery connectors, including a 12V cigarette lighter connector.

POST 5Original post

Joe, which cayman S did you end up getting? I am in North Andover, if you ever want to do coffee and show off your vehicle...

POST 6Original post

Above seem to be referencing chargers, not maintainers. I got the Porsche maintainer in Canada for about $80, but I think it is only $55 or so USD. Check with your dealer first.

POST 7Original post

Battery Tender "Plus" is highly recommended in the Pelican 911 forum. I got one on eBay for about $50 and it works beautifully.

POST 8Original post

I've been using a BatteryTender on my other cars for several years. I ordered a second one for the croc from http://www.batterystuff.com . I also ordered the part to convert it to a cigarette lighter connection, $78 including tax and shipping. The Porsche item is, <ahem> a bit pricey IMO. OK, URL not showing up ==> http://www.batterystuff.com

POST 9Original post

When do you use the battery tender? How long does your car sit without being started or driven? Thanks Russ

POST 10Original post

My car just sat for about 5 weeks and the battery was dead.

POST 11Original post

One thing that's nice about a Battery Tender is that you can plug it in any time you won't drive the car for a couple of days. It has smarts built in that prevent it from cooking your battery, so it just goes idle until your battery needs a charge. With the lighter adapter plug you can just, well, plug it into the lighter outlet. Pretty easy.

POST 12Original post

vet4scuba, www.autosportcatalog.com/index.cfm?fa=c&cid=41 for a CTEK. Works like a charm and much less expensive that the identical Porsche model.

POST 13Original post

C-Tek charger 1. Autosport does not cary the cigarette lighter adapter (I tried there first before I found Apex Performance). 2.There's a difference between a smart charger/tender and a charger. Don't know what that Black and Decker one is. A pure charger can boil your battery if left on too long.

POST 14Original post

Robert you are dead on. I was just trying to recall where I got mine and autosport came to mind. Can't do without the cigarette lighter attachment. I recall (I hope) that it was available at a small extra charge and that the clips were standard. Please tell me I'm right and not going totally Alz here.

POST 15Original post

I ordereded the CTEK 3300 and cigarette lighter adaptor last night and it shipped this morning. Check out www.apexperformance.net . Charger was 69.99 and adaptor was 9.99............no sales tax and free shipping.

POST 16Original post

Wow, thanks gatorcayman . Thought my meds were wearing off for a while there.

POST 17Original post

Thanks for all the help----------You are the greatest !!!!!! Joe Parisi Salem Ma

POST 18Original post

vet4scuba I bought a Porsche battery maintainer for my Boxster last winter. Then I sold the Boxster and bought a Cayman. The Porsche dealer threw in a battery maintainer and actually hard wired it to the battery. So, I have an extra one that I would be glad to sell for $25. I have no use for it. Send me an email if you are interested. TerryB

POST 20Original post

The Black and Decker both charges and maintains the battery. It will turn off when the battery is charged and then turn back on again when the battery voltage drops. (I would have replied sooner, but the instant email notification does not seem to work).

POST 21Original post

Thanks! I just ordered one today. I will be going out on vacation and don't want to be a victim of DBS (dead battery syndrome, as called by the Corvette C6 folks!).
