Is it possible to have the Pioneer Avic-Z1 replace the factory Bose ? I love the Avic-Z1 but I hope it works with Bose
Did anybody do this swap?
Thanks
Did you check the Cayman Electronics forum and/or do a search before asking?
My Cayman is coming in December and I intend on adding the AVIC-Z1. However, I did NOT order the Bose system. From what I've been reading, this may be a rather significant detail.
Regardless, I'll post up full details as soon as it gets done.
Swancoat, do you have a link to this AVIC-Z1? Keep us informed, I do not have the Bose either so if you can do this I might want to do it too!

Great site for info on the Avic units as well as hacks for the "safety" features.
Yeah, it's a pretty sweet machine. My biggest concern currently is the 'look' of the unit when it's installed. Installer is highly recommended by the dealer, and it sounds like it will have a very factory 'look' when it's finished.
Most of my research around this has come from this forum, specifically a lot of the postings from Suneet.
My general view is that the Bose has a lot of Fiber optics, utilization of the MOST bus and tie ins with the whole car system that make things pretty damn difficult. Apparantly the base system doesn't have such difficulties.
The installer says they've already done some Caymans, (Caymen?) and said no problems whatsoever.
We'll see I guess. But first I have to get the damn Cayman...
sweeeeeet !

The installation can be done with Bose units as well, as I've seen it done on 2006 and newer 997's with the Bose intact. However, you'd definitley have to add an external amplifier, or simply just run four speakers with the built in amplifier of the Z1 and no sub unless you replace the Bose sub with a powered unit. You'd also have to run new speaker wires to the speakers, and most probably replace the drivers with industry standard 4-ohm speakers. We'd know for sure if someone with Bose takes out there headunit out while they're installing an FM modulator or something and starts their car up. If there is an error, that means you have to leave the headunit plugged in and simply move it to the front trunk like someone on another board did, if there aren't any errors that show up then you can simply replace the unit.
On sound package plus cars, all audio hookups except for cd-changer and text display in dash are copper, so simply changing your headunit will be easy and just require soldering in the four existing speaker cables (they later split up and feed the ASK amplifier and the midrange speakers\tweeters) and the power cable. Also sound quality will be improved because the built-in amplifier on the Z1's much better than the one on the CDR24.
