Question for everybody.
I found this Sirius kit on Crutchfield and was thinking that it might work for us. Of course its not fully integrated into PCM, but for 1/10th the price of the Cayanne hard wired system I am willing to give it a shot.
Take a look and let me know what you think. The controller unit could sit in the open slot under the air/heat controls on the front dash (just behind the gear changer). The modulator could be placed anywhere flat, maybe under the passengar seat. The unit has both a FM relay switch and a FM transmitter so either output system could be selected. The only problem I see with the unit is the DC power harness.
Anybody know how or where I could wire the DC power harness? I know that there is a power outlet near the passenger foot area (I believe for charging the battery when its dead?) but does this also have a direct DC line. If not, does anybody know where I can tap into one inside the
Cayman
.
I am willing to give this a try, however I am not sure about the power to the unit. If somebody can suggest something, I will post pictures after some working on it.

I have a similar version for XM

Mounted in the slot under the radio. There is spacebehind the stock radiofor the tuner. I tapped into awireat the fuse box. It looks near stock and works great.
I have a Sirius S50 that I use until I get the Cayenne kit installed. All I can say is using the FM modulator sucks. There is so much static and depending on where you are at it just doesn't work at all. I've tried different frequencies and the result is the same.
Is this one any better?
I used the Sirius Starmate and added theSirius direct antenna connect kit ($20) which looksthe same as the one pictured in the SC-FM1 Starbase kit. Works great! No more FM modulator static and fades.Unfortunately I don't know how toattach a couple pics ofhow it looks mountedunit in the ashtray bay.Mine had to be above it. I could send pics to an email address. Let me know. The Starbase being a little smaller will fit into the bay.I don't intend to use itwith a home kit although I could sicne I used velcro toattach it.
XM Commander is a FM modulater. Every audio store I've been to says to forget about them, sound will be terrible ... especially if your in a metro areas with many FM stations?
How does is sound?
