Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Changed relay today and no change, works at first then slowly loses power till finally stops if I turn off the motor and restart it works again, also if I unplug the relay and refit it also starts,

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

13 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

1 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Hi all Heater runs ok for about 5min then fan stops working have replaced the cabin AC control and made no difference If I switch the ignition off and re start the engine it works as normal, but only if i switch off and remove the key, it does not work by just switching the ignition on and off. Any advice before I start looking at circuit diagram Thanks in advance Steve

POST 2Original post

Yeah - try giving the relay a wiggle. Forgot which one it is but it's above the fusebox in the footwell. Could very likely be a dodgy connection on one of the pins.

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Alex is that the one on the passengers side footwell

POST 4Original post

Hi, No it's on the drivers side footwell above the fuse box. If you find a relay diagram for there it'll tell you which one the heater fan relay is. Think it's no.1 one in the diagram:

Think I will have to check the ballast and motor. Are these easy to get to Steve

POST 6Original post

The fan itself is easy to access in the passenger footwell. I'd check the power to that as it could be the fan.

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Does the 996 up to year 2000 have a blower power switch

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Alex next question is there a ballast resistor in there

POST 11Original post

Just a thought. As you have to remove the key to get it work again, the accessory circuit might have an issue. IIRC it has a time out after turning the key to accessory then back to 0 in case you forget to take the key out, removing the key resets the timer for next time. Could be fuse for accessory or ignition switch fault.

POST 12Original post

If that was the case, wouldn't the HVAC display turn off at the same time (as well as other electronics)?

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
