Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

had the car for just over a month - 2002 996 46k and noticed that when driving to work today the voltage guage (which has previously been steady) was bouncing slitghtly, and also lights where slightly flickering..... thoughts please

POST 2Original post

Sounds like the alternator is on the way out. Usual suspect is the diode pack (under £20). Buy a replacement and fit it yourself otherwuse a replacement alternator is around £800 or a refurbed unit a few hundred

POST 3Original post

You can get a Bosch recon unit from Europarts for around £300 - getting at it to replace it is tricky though I have heard. There's a You Tube video here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JyfhgBs84C4 Good luck!
