I just wanted to share my impressions of the
Softronic
ECU
tune in 2024, maybe a decade or more since it was first developed. My car has no performance mods except a suspect modded
exhaust
and/or cats.
Ordering:
I ordered directly from the Softronic website. It was good working with Scott. I ordered my tune on April 13 and had flashed my ECU by April 18. I didn't expect a company as old as Softronic to deliver at Prime Now-era speeds, so I was pleasantly surprised.
Installation:
The instructions are detailed but technology varies and changes quickly, so I can understand someone not tech-savvy struggling with this. I installed the software, updated it, and ran it as administrator on my Windows machine to bypass any security restrictions. When reading my ECU file onto the MyGenius device, I just plugged it into the OBD port and followed the instructions, it took maybe 30 seconds. When writing the new ECU file, I hooked my car up to
this 20A battery charger
, and the flash process took maybe 5 minutes. My battery is from 2017 so I didn't want to take any risks.
Impressions:
I was skeptical about the tune being worth the cost, so I made my wife get it for me as an early birthday gift. The first thing you'll notice is the improved throttle response. The second thing you might notice is the change in the exhaust note, it becomes nice and deep outside (but unfortunately a bit more droney/bassy in-cabin). After 30+ miles of driving when the ECU has adapted, there is a noticeable increase in lower RPM torque, which is distinct from the improved throttle response. It actually lets me pass cars in one gear higher than I usually do. This results in slightly better fuel efficiency. Getting up to highway speeds on ramps also happens noticeably quickly. To be honest, the car feels
too fast
with just me in it, but just right with a passenger. I am amazed that this is all happening in software.
Congrats on getting the tune. When I did my
987.1
, I can’t say I remember having any drone. It might have to do with the fact that I had an AWE cat-back
exhaust
and a tune to account for it.
Maybe others can chime in.
I had drone before the tune too because either my cats have a failing weld or a previous owner opened one up and gutted the inside. The tune just reduced the drone frequency to be more bassy, so it sounds nicer outside.
Had you used an electronic throttle interceptor prior to the
Softronic tune
? Because they definitely make the car feel like it has more power.
I'd be interested to see you try the 3500-7000RPM pull in 2nd gear per (

)
Cheers,
Julian
No I hadn’t, and I’ve been curious about how much of the tune’s effect is throttle remapping. Thanks for sharing that thread, I just mounted and old
iPhone
as a
GoPro
alternative and can put this to good use recording that pull.
