Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

If you do install the headers, let Scott know so he can adjust his exhaust maps to give you the best rear wheel torque outcome.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

5 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1Original post

While I wait for my Softronic flashing device, I decided to investigate why the exhaust on my 987.1 2.7L Cayman sounded like it did: moderately loud, stock-looking, with burbles on deceleration and a drone between 2700-3000 RPM. I could not find anything interesting when peeking at the exhaust and headers, but noticed that the driver side catalytic converter has what seems like a weld (left image). I don't see this weld on the passenger side catalytic converter (right image). There is no CEL (which I assumed modifying the cats would trigger) but I don't have a code reader handy to dig further. Am I correct in hypothesizing that one of the previous owners cut open the driver's side cat, modified the insides, and welded it back to make the car sound slightly louder? Or should I look for the source of my loud exhaust somewhere else?

POST 2Original post

I had to copy your pic and blow it up on my computer screen - but it looks like a weld - a factory weld - is failing. Unfortunately - I believe you're out of any emissions warranty coverage for the cat-converter, and a new or even used one is going to be expensive. It's possible a good welder might be able to fix that.

POST 3Original post

Argh, I thought this was done intentionally! It's been like this for at least 6 years, previous owners assumed one of the owners before them had put in an aftermarket exhaust. In either case, I'm going to find some way to replace this. Thankfully I just passed NY inspection.

POST 4Original post

Maybe a time for new Soul catted headers. You will pick up maybe 10 hp to go with your Softronic ECU up grade. If you do install the headers, let Scott know so he can adjust his exhaust maps to give you the best rear wheel torque outcome.
