And it does beg the question, do you need to change the intake components to get more air in at the same time?

Any one have any experience with these?.... Fitment being the issue.
They look pretty and would dress up the underside , couldn't find any performance figures

They boost torque, do nothing for the HP figure that's worth mentioning. I tested a set 2 weeks ago, and the results were impressive, if you are looking for a boost in torque, and power under the curve.
I've got a set on my FSI Stage II 3.8l... They obviously sound different from the stock headers - a little higher pitched/more "exotic" sounding... I also have FS Maxflo mufflers (which are a little more rumbly than stock)... I like the sound of the combo. As for the performance - I'll defer to Jake . I think you'll be happy with them
I do not have them wrapped. Stainless steel is a poor heat conductor and therefore does a much better job at containing heat within the header then the mild steel found in most factory setups. This essentially obliviates the need for heat shielding.
I used to wrap my headers on my race cars.
The wrapping holds in the heat, which is great for keeping the IAT lower.
But wrapping makes the headers not last as long.
I would never wrap headers on a street application unless I was willing to sacrifice the headers for incrementally more HP.
At $500 it might be worth it though, but $1600 headers would REALLY hurt
The extra heat might kill off your cats or mufflers sooner!
But the wrapping sure looks nice on Youtube!
I couldn't pass them up at $500. I had been considering Soul Performance headers because of the impressive build quality but they would have cost me $700 more than the Agency Power version.
It makes sense when you're racing and every little HP counts.
On the street, it looks cool at Cars and Coffee and on Youtube.
But it will reduce the life of your headers.
Better to ceramic coat them if you care to spend the money.
My Agency Power headers arrived earlier today, but I was busy working on a Car Ministry client’s vehicle.
I just now got a chance to open the box and take a look.
The Agency Power header collector looks better than the Hooker header collector based on pictures.
They‘re hundreds of miles better than cheap Chinese eBay headers!
I borescoped both Agency headers.
Wow!
I’m impressed!
Wish I could get a look in person at a set of Hooker headers.
Just got mine yesterday, they look great! Collector is a nice piece, and the TIG welds look pretty good. The ports are quite a bit larger than stock, should be interesting to see how well they match up to the head ports. Certainly smoother than stock both at the inlet to the tubing as well as the bends and welds. The stock have quite a bit of weld spatter and stringers left from production. Plus the formed sheet metal collector on the stock units leaves a little to be desired.
No idea how they'll work, flow is a funny thing. Sometimes more cross-sectional area is good, but fluid dynamics and acoustic tuning (pulsation scavenging) takes a bit of work to get right. Source: I work for a Coriolis mass flow meter company as a test engineer...gas flow lab.
Unfortunately I'll have to wait until my block gets back from LN and I get everything back together to try these out.
I just received this in my e-mail:
Better act quickly if you want a set of Agency Power headers.
It seems they won't be making them any longer.
*********snip************
Thanks for sharing, might grab a set even though I wasn't planning on doing it anytime soon. Also I'm unsure if it will cause issues with a CEL and I believe most people don't tune 99s. I also wonder if its just not a popular item or its increasing pressure for emissions standards. I know in the VW/AUDI world APR discontinued their downpipes and stage 2 software because of it.
Maybe I should just wait until the engine blows then lol.
Might take you up on that. I took the car apart one time for the mufflers, plugs, and coil packs. Dunno how much harder it is to do the headers, usually, headers are a pain but on the 996 it seems relatively accessible but I am terrified of those bolts.
PB... Like a lot... start a routing of blasting them every night for a couple days before the surgery. Take a punch and give each bolt a sold couple whacks on the head while you're at it to hopefully get them agitated a bit.
Then pray as you crack them.
Thats my plan for when they have to come off.
Yeah they suck, like exhaust bolts everywhere. At least you can just glare up at them from underneath to try to intimidate them though. Good old ATF+acetone or something like that, a little heat, a little light tap-tap-tap with a hammer and chisel on the head, some gentle reversing torque by hand and all but two of mine broke free. I completely admit though that the pressure's off if everything else is already apart!
Well i snapped 8 of 12 on my car i tried a fair amount if heat, welding nuts to the stubs along with plenty of penetrating oil. The weird thing is i have had most of the bolts on my car apart and these were the only ones that have given me any trouble.
The jig and patients makes the repair fairly easy. I will add that even with the jig i had to helicoil 2 of the holes. So if u have to make the repair get a m8 kit jic
I ordered a set of these headers and ohlins road and track from Vivid. Then they sent me some waivers to sign......then more emails saying they wont ship the headers to california. I replied ok send to Illinois to my Illinois house and they said we wont because your billing address is california. I called them and after waiting 15 minutes, a gal tells me oh so and so is handling this and he's on lunch. I'll have him call you. Of course he never does. Meanwhile the ohlins is a 6 to 8 week wait. So I'm not very impressed with Vivid Racing. In fact I'd say they are inept.
Update: They got it straightened out very well. I am very satisfied
I think its just the direction we are headed. I saw that Audi announced they are moving to all-electric so I think we are going to start to see this sort of stuff phase-out.
I really want to grab a set of these headers. I would have ordered them already if they werent coming from Vivid. Ive read too many terrible things about their business practices to want to spend my money with them. A quick search of just their BBB rating will tell you a lot.
Seems like a state problem, they do drop ship a lot of things from various warehouses and they depend on vendors to backfill orders which is the way most big shops handle things now a day... which I agree sucks. I've ordered parts from them over the years and only had to wait for some parts to be shipped from ABT Germany.
Yes you are correct. Volvo is going all electric by 2030. Since I own an F150 and this one is my third, I also own Ford stock. The big turnaround there is electric. Mustang Mach E, watch Ford take market share from Tesla. There are companies that are building street legal e cars developed on racing technology. The problem is price tag and range. Hummer all electric 3 motors 1,000 horsepower. , I have a 36 gallon fuel tank and sometimes when I fill up it reads 800 miles to empty. By the way my F150 supercrew had almost a 45,000 sticker price, I paid $28,500 for it just STX package with electronic looking diff. On top of that i bought it on truck month so I have 100,000 powertrain warranty, so no mods to this. One of my neighbors has the same truck but with all the options he paid $60k . We were talking on sunday about the Porsche and i said that i got both vehicles for less than $50k.
the electric thing really irritates me because it's all based on a huge lie. nothing wrong with electric vehicles thoughOn Electric Cars
Electric cars are not green. 63 percent of the nations energy comes from burning fossil fuel and 20 percent from nuclear. It's easy to compute the chem energy and the efficiency of converting fossil fuel to electricity. For natural gas that number is about 40 percent, coal about 33 percent. For any fossil fuel reaction (burning with the proper amount of oxygen), CO2 is emitted proportional to the energy output. There is also a significant amount of energy lost in the transmission from the power plant to the home. ...about 6 percent or an efficiency of 94 percent. So if you combine the weighted average of coal and gas efficiency together you get about 38 percent multiply by .94 gives you .36 (36 percent). A modern gas engine in a automobile is about 35 percent and a diesel is over 40 percent. So, there you go. If you factor in the battery mess.... well you have a huge mess. Its an amazing fraud that you're told electric cars are zero emissions. It's criminal. Now you may say....well we are going to convert to renewable energy.....Doug! OK, let's have a look at that. Currently 7 percent of the nations energy is provided by wind and 1.7 percent by solar. If all cars were electric (cars only) and we eliminated natural gas to the homes (44 percent of residential energy consumption) , we would need well over 2 times the current electric energy total.... as a nation. So right now, NOT including the battery footprint, electric cars pollute about the same as gas and diesel cars. We'll have to decide whether we want to erect roughly 40 times the wind generators and where and what the impact is...environmental, lifespan, disposal etc. Electric cars are great, but they are not green and they damn sure aren't zero emissions.
Great info. Well said. I heard the speech on a YouTube video from the Texas lutenant governor at second baptist church about what happened in our blackouts. In a nutshell they did not winterize the lines and plenty of power plants could not receive natural gas. If a lot of those plants were set up in coal we could have survived. Anyway, I laugh my *** off every time I see someone driving a Prius Tesla. Volt or any other electric cars. AOC said that we should eliminate cows, I say bull**** I love meat, brisket, short ribs, Ribeyes, etc. We need to screw the Chinese and Indians worst polluters in the world.
While I agree with you, one has to look at the last Texas fiasco....but there is a loophole. The renewable attribute can be legally separated from the actual power, which means power can be consumed in one place, but a different place gets credit as if it had actually consumed the renewable power. So.....a Colorado wind farm can sell the abstract credit, known as an RPC or Renewable Power Certificate to California. California needs credits to meet its renewable power quota and is willing to pay for nothing more than a piece of paper. The wind farm can also sell the
real electric power separately
to someone who is willing to buy electricity that comes without the renewable power attributes because the renewable power attribute has been sold to California. This is a clever legal way to convert power from fossil fuels into renewable power and meet a renewable power quota without actual renewable power! When one considers that most wind and solar are intermittent and erratic sources of power, as in Texas, they always have to be backed up with fossil fuel plants that take over when the sun sets or the wind stops. When you look at California and the economics of solar power, why in order to generate solar power if there werent various subsidies it would cost about $80 per megawatt-hour. With the federal and state subsidies the cost might be reduced to $25 per megawatt-hour. In contrast, the marginal cost of generating power with natural gas is $15 to $20 a megawatt-hour. But the $25 renewable power runs out when the California grid cant accept any more solar in the middle of the day. If they pay Nevada $15 to accept the excess solar, they now have a route to get renewable credits for $40 per megawatt-hour, $25 for the solar power, and $15 to get Nevada to accept the unusable power. Essentially by a legal strategy, they are converting natural gas electricity, delivered in the evening, into renewable electricity. Nevada, on the other hand, is getting electricity that is not legally renewable, even though it really does come from solar. The real scam in all of this comes down to the simple fact that utilities have no incentive to stop the waste because they have figured out how to make money or should we really say, scam money by promoting dubious renewable power. Just look at the sideshow of politicians on state public utility commissions where a good deal of state legislatures do not have the knowledge, ability, or guts to really represent the interests of the people, but sure as hell welcome the interests of the manufacturers of wind and solar stations along with those environmental organizations that are profiting from an artificial fear of traditional energy. Yet, people send money to environmental organizations because they have been convinced that catastrophes are looming....and yet just nobody has figured out how much electricity will be needed just in those metro areas alone as they plug in their electric cord at night to charge their vehicle....with an outdated electrical grid.
I'm sorry that this got as long as it did, but seriously, why do I have to subsidize somebody's purchase of an electric car? If it is so wonderful, then open up the cage and let it fly on its own......
It all boils down to scams and suckers Like PT Barnum said..... Nuclear power is very attractive although you have to be an expert to eval the real danger of a modern nuclear plant
Porsche is working on CO2 neutral fuel. That would be very cool
I think the genie is out of the bottle. I don't think the electric car thing is going away. Nor is solar and batteries either. There are always consequences to these things, mining for instance, but the effects on the electrical grid short term. On the other hand, nothing is gained without hands on practical experience, so the more of these that are purchased (cars), the more solar bought, the less expensive it gets, the more efficient it becomes, etc. I love my Fisters, Porsche, etc., but I think the change to electrical is inevitable. This from the point of an electrician.
I have a customer for who invests in Tesla on the multimillion dollar level. Not that this is the be all end all opinion, or vision of the future, but he's bullish on the future of their products.
That is because it is. I know we are going a little off-topic here but you are seeing many oil-rich nations start to diversify because they see the writing on the wall. Time for companies to start expanding or be left behind.
On a car-related note, I do wonder what it will do for the value of cars like the 911 come 20+ years down the line when more manufacturers move on to electric.
Yeah a lot of electric cars out there. Polestar from Germany is awesome.!Like i said before Ford will take away from Tesla. I bought last year at $6, its over $12. The issue with Tesla is size, Ford sells more F 150 that Tesla does all cars and yes there is an electric F 150 coming. The Hummer thats coming will crush the Tesla truck. I think our older more driver involvement required cars will be fine. Im retired, a reason why I am retired is because I saved and invested. I bought apple and Microsoft in 2009. Im not a trader. Anyway Apple is going to come up with the Apple car and then you will see some kids will never learn how to drive. If you guys are wondering yes I could have bought a new 911,
i test drove it, no I didnt want to buy it.
A move to electric cars will soon over stress the electric supply and all hell will break loose. It will be satisfying to watch. Hopefully we can capture and shoot those responsible
I think all that will happen is jobs will be created to beef up the grid. The utilities will eventually succumb to service that had become that bad or someone else will replace them. Supply and demand. Same thing for the legacy auto manufacturers. The strong will survive as always.
I struggle a bit with the concept of the eccentric / electric crowd. Theres a reason the ICE is in use; its more practical, affordable and maintainable. There also doesnt seem to be an effective marketing approach to electric cars. I mean can you convince the average car owner they need to own something thats 50% more in costs (with govt subsidies), not to mention the lack of infrastructure to adequately support it? This is not a concept that pulls customers to your product, but instead pushes (shoves) them in that direction, think mandates, virtue signaling and threat of cancel culture if you dont comply to a certain ideology.
I get it, electric cars are cool, lots of torque, and on the surface, virtually maintenance free, until you have to buy a new battery.
I know costs are coming down, and theres a network of Tesla charging stations, or other charging stations outside of Whole Foods, etc.
I just think until you can offer a true economic reason to transition, its a tough sell to go electric. Or you just convince everyone to pay double (triple) for their Transportatipn costs, like in Europe, then youre there.
But I can definitely say, those Agency headers are nice. They look well made! 👍
Theres also a large Tesla charging station at Rudys BBQ near me.
So when youre ready to charge your govt mandated electric car, we can meet at Rudys for lunch.
Im here in Texas and normally I smoke stuff on Sunday. This Sunday Im doing a 7 lb pork shoulder and some akaushi beef, pork jalapeo cheese sausage. Anyway after messing some briskets I finally got it right. My wife whos extremely picky use to tell me get Rudys now she says when are you doing brisket again. Picture of a 4 lb part my butcher friend got me. For my birthday in April we are going to Austin and we plan to hit snow in Lexington, Franklin, stichswitch and salt lick, the mecas of Texas BBQ, if Titos is open for tours we are doing that one too. Some other smoke stuff too.
I think this thread now has more useless info on electric cars and BBQ than it does Agency Power headers. I was actually hoping to find good information on these as I’ve been on the fence for some time but i guess that’s completely out the window.
Do headers on these cars provide any horsepower/TQ gain? I know add horsepower is kind of hard to come by with these motors, but has anyone dyno'd theirs to see what they got. And it does beg the question, do you need to change the intake components to get more air in at the same time? Why are some headers track only not emissions legal? I could see messing with the cats and why that could cause problems with inspections, but why headers? I'm sure paying to have them tested or certified is probably pricey.
Jake at Fsi tested them and said that they add torque, not to much HP that would be interesting to me because my engine is the 3.4. Anyway, Tex squirell got them but i dont know if he had install them yet. I saw some testing on the fab speed ones and it showed torque and hp gains but those are more expensive. regarding the Agency power ones there is a graph showing gains on the vivid racing website. good luck making contact with anyone there, I even sent them a text message and have not received an answer, today will be three days with no awnser. have been calling too and I have not reach a soul yet.
If you want to hear from Vivid just buy something. I get 4 emails a day since I bought these headers.
The good news is that I ordered them last Friday and they are being delivered today, one week later, to Houston TX.
The bad news is that I ordered the Hooker Blackheart exhaust same day and haven't received any shipping updates on those.... we'll see how that turns out.
Thanks Im in Katy. Let me know what you think of them once you get them installed. Im meeting squirrel 🐿 tomorrow at the GTG in sugarland. Are you going??? My name is Luis. 99 silver with red Porsche stripes turbo wheels.
I'm Energy Corridor and my daughter goes to Katy Taylor so sounds like we're close. Haven't been to a GTG with LSR PCA yet. I dont have Facebook so I don't know about most of that stuff until after it happens.
Headers and muffler should be on by April 10 DE at MSR.... that's the plan anyway.
My gaskets and new header bolts are showing up today.
My hopes were to install them tomorrow afternoon, but an injury now means that I won't be doing that.
It may be weeks/months before I can get to them now.
I'm still hoping to go to the GTG tomorrow morning though.
I'd like to see and borescope the Hooker headers if possible.
Which part of Houston are you in?
Tomorrow is in Sugarland, but last Saturday was literally walking distance from my house I-10 and 99 whiskey cake. You can go to the lone star web site and see the calendar. Dont need Facebook. Anyway maybe you can mal el the drive to Starbucks tomorrow.
I order a set from Vivid yesterday, minutes after I signed the waiver I got an email saying they are canceling my order due
to emissions regulations. Thats crazy!
-Our online order team has the following comments about your order: Hello! We received your order however part purchased is unable to ship due to emissions regulations. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you-
Unfortunately, it looks like this is the way it's going. Had no intentions of doing stage 2 with my Audi S3 but with all this stuff going on I am having a downpipe and stage tune 2 done today. One of the biggest players in the Audi/VW, APR, has already dropped their downpipes.
I'm guessing you wanted them shipped to CA.
If I sold performance(or firearm) parts, I wouldn't sell anything to anyone in CA.
To many potential legal issues.
That's the state's fault, not the individual's fault.
Yes CA, but what's the point of the waiver if the order is going to be canceled, they should note on the listing that it will be not shipped to CA. or other states with
emissions regulations. It will save time for everybody.
.
Same here. Thats a pretty good price, and the bolts all look easy to access. Time to launch into a full-on daily assault with penetrating oil while I wait for my shipment! 🙂
I already have my mufflers off to get the Fister mod done. Might as well swap out the manifolds / headers, too! Im sticking with the stock cats for now, though.
Maybe try to order from Flat 6? They have them on their website... Not quite as cheap but maybe they'd price match? Who knows... Reason #996 I don't live in ca.
I very much enjoyed the exhaust header part of this thread. The content led to a purchase Im super excited about! 🙂
I agree with the comments on electric cars. But maybe in a different venue.
Im not an admin or the kind of person that reports a lot of stuff. But just sayin they might have done the right thing.
Welp... my order was cancelled the first time because I was shipping to my buddys shop instead of my home address. Got that cleared up and itll be arriving on Friday. Ill be dropping off the car to get the EPS installed as well as the clutch and RMS... might as well have them install the headers because Murphy has been making some unwanted visits lately.
its drilling it out each bolt with 2 different sizes and then running the tap up. U just dont want to go too deep but thats not a huge issue. I marked the drill bit and the bolt it about 5mm shirt of the bottom of the hole so u know when u get through it.
just take your time and make sure its clean and clear when done.
i still needed to helicoil 2 holes so u may want to buy that kit before u start.
The jig is just there to help you drill accurately to remove what's left of the bolts (I haven't done this yet, it's observation). If I was to remove these bolts, I'd probably get some studs and use a lot of anti seize compound on both ends.
Super helpful - thank you!
Im still debating whether I go for it, or take the car to a muffler shop to have the headers installed.
Its a tough call, because those exhaust manifold bolts are RIGHT THERE..... So easy to access. It looks so tempting.
Man i wouldnt let a muffler guy touch my car with a 39 and a half foot pole. Those guys are bottom of the barrel usually. Have a decent indy do them at a minumum.
I went to the vivid racing site after following this thread since it started. I am slowly collecting parts to modify intake and exhaust next year. they are sold out on the vivid site but I found them for $585 on the horsepower freaks (or something like that) site. That site is linked to vivid racing and you even send the epa waiver to vivid.
Just an aside that I enjoy the conversational minor diversions into topics like slow cooked meat. Lets keep some personal character to a site that links people from all over the world who share one common interest but also have other interests.
Since travel is kind of tough right now, being able to talk about almost anything with other enthusiasts is a good substitute. Have reservations at a hotel in the UK in Port Isaac for August and hoping it opens up. Due for my first shot on the 9th.
My wife has been there during the last round of tv filming. Has quite a following on Facebook related to the show and travel there. Looking forward to getting there at some point.
