I had to do some minor filing to get it to fit over the existing mount but it works great once you tighten the set screw.

One more note, evidently I didn't need to secure it with the included set screw because it was a snug fit and there was no way it was going to rotate.

Hi, I'd like to replace the standard manual mirror with Gentex 50-GENK2AM auto dimming mirror. I've read quite a bit related to this and concluded that (I believe) there is no adapter that converts the existing mirror mount to "D Wedge". I'd rather not remove the existing mount unless absolutely only option. Best solution so far is removing the mounting stems and switching them out, but I'm not sure if the balls are the same size on existing mirror and new Gentex. Anyone had success with this mod that can share solution? Thanks, Ed

I have the same mirror and I used the Gentex Audi VW adapter. Amazon doesn't carry it anymore but found it on eBay. Pricey for a small piece of metal but I paid $55 back in 2012! Gentex Windshield Mirror Adapter Bracket for VW & Audi vehicles 826003000799 | eBay I had to do some minor filing to get it to fit over the existing mount but it works great once you tighten the set screw.

Sure, these are the parts I've ordered from Amazon . 1. Gentex 50-GENK2AM Auto-Dimming Rear View Mirror https://a.co/d/duu5cT1 2. Master Tailgaters Rear View Mirror Three Metal Bracket Adapters for Volkswagen, Audi, Dodge, Ford, Honda https://a.co/d/133INSN (This set of three pieces appears to include a part similar to the Brandmotion P/N 5000-VWAB2, VW / Audi Windshield Mirror Mount Adapter Bracket and was $19.99 vs. $49.95 on eBay for single Brandmotion piece). This is the part searocko used/recommended that requires filing to fit. Using these parts together will be my first attempt and if that doesn't work, next I'll try changing out the ball mount stems. I'll update when finalized.

One more note, evidently I didn't need to secure it with the included set screw because it was a snug fit and there was no way it was going to rotate. It's solid and the mirror doesn't wobble. YMMV with the adapter you found.
