Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

My 996 C4 1999, has just ticked over 196k and my Boxster has 212 k, what’s your mileage?

POST 2Original post

WOW - very impressive. I am about 150 miles short of 100k... only just run in it seams...

POST 3Original post

The cars that just keep giving. I was only reading some scare story the other day about the EU bringing in a law that meant cars over 15 years old were'nt allowed to be maintained and kept on the road ( https://www.wheels-alive.co.uk/eu-plans-to-restrict-repairs-on-older-vehicles/ ). I thought what a joke, my 996 is in better condition and has miles more miles left in it than many 6 year cars on the road.

If such nonsense was to happen in the EU it would be interesting to see whether our 'powers that be' would adopt it in the UK. I'd like to think that our MOT standards would be deemed robust enough to allow 'old' cars to be kept going. Personally I think our biggest fear should be of increased taxation of ICE cars.

POST 6Original post

It's also been proven to be wrong many times over : https://www.jgclassics.com/en/2024/...n-union-intend-to-ban-the-repair-of-old-cars/ There was even a twitter statement from the European Commission denying they had any intention of banning / preventing the repair of old cars. But the news was re-published by less-than-recommendable outfits that didn't do their homework (or just wanted easy clicks). If anyone is fighting against right to repair / maintain, that would be large companies (and car manufacturers). Porsche's approach of quadrupling the cost of spare parts in the last 20 years is also a move in that direction. But at least they still sell them.

POST 7Original post

Well we are not in the EU, but there are already plans to scrap cars before they reach 14years old, and I refer to electric cars, I understand the cost to replace an 8 year old battery pack is more than an 8 year old electric car is worth so what will a 14 year old one be worth? BTW referring back to the OP my 997 has done 120k, but only 60 is on its new engine!

POST 8Original post

Well that logic applies to a lot of ICE cars. Putting a new engine in a 10yo Pug is probably more costly than the car's worth. My 996's only got about 45k on the clock, so I'm not a good contender here . I've got an 86 with 75k but that's hardly high either!

POST 9Original post

Quotes source post: 2685663

Hence me calling it a scare story. Were such nonsense actually happen in blighty, I wonder where it would leave operations like and including Hartech?

POST 11Original post

Quotes source post: 2685695

Didn't see that bit Someone commented that such legislation would be pretty useless since a lot of shops working on mainstream cars already refuse to take on too "complicated" repairs on older cars, or quote them at a price point that makes keeping the car nonsense. "Historic" cars have always been given some leeway by the law (be it in the US or in the EU), I doubt this would change. Despite everything going on, it seems classic / special cars are more popular than ever.

POST 12Original post

Learnt today that the lovely bunch of socialist bureaucrats in the EU are pushing for all cars over 15 years old to be banned from repair. So glad we are out!

POST 13Original post

I barely find time to drive mine, had it since Jan 2020 and it would be embarrassing if i added up the actual milage I had added. That said, I don't plan on selling it though and hope to get some miles on it this year

POST 14Original post

We may not be in the EU any more but will this stop manufacturers in Europe producing parts for older cars and will we be allowed to drive our older cars over there?

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Well this thread went in a different direction than I expected. I’ve also got a 1977 Porsche 924 with just 46k on the clock, that’s MOT exempt which I think is ludicrous.

This is a source reference. Confirm exact model applicability in the original material.
