Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

Suggestion
I am more thinking that we will need some sort of replacement trim items to fill the attachement places now vacated.

Suggestion
it may be a small mod for Porsche but it does make a difference in the experience (as every change does).
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Thanks all for the quick updates.
And as tempting as the sawzall route sounds, I really don't want it off that bad ...
It's just that the RS 60 finally has an instrument bezel that is special, and not simply a cheapened version of the 5 spot 997 dash.
You know, we can't have a nicer interior in the
Cayman
than the flagship ...
I'm thinking that the dealer (or an interior shop) can touchup any residual attachment marks.
As they typically do when cars are returned off lease or trade.
I'll post a detailed pic of the fabulous RS 60 interior when the model hits the dealer network.
After 9 new Porsches, I just might have a bit of pull.
SO HOW DO WE GET IT OFF? Who is going to try it first? I wanted it to come off as well. Regardless, of the RS60 I think it would look kool with the extra removed!
If I have time, I wil be the guinea pig. Can't be that hard. I am more thinking that we will need some sort of replacement trim items to fill the attachement places now vacated. The shot of the RS60 doesn't clearly show though.
I'm going to try this weekend as well. I have a feeling its held in by 3 or 4 clips and there will be holes behind. Might have to get the guys from bumper plugs to fabricate something afterwards.
I wonder if you have to remove the "gauge surround"......the piece of plastic (that is sometimes painted) under the shade. With it removed, you might see the clips or mounting
points
for the shade.
The problem you may have is that the dash on the Spider may be different than what is on the standard
Cayman
/
Boxster
. Removing the shade may leave unsightly mounting
points
for it on the standard dash.......where the Spider dash will not have any. Something to think about.
Wish I had better news ...

Looks like
Porsche
went to the trouble and expense of spreading the 3 guages apart a bit more.
Perhaps this new configuration will be used in the 09 facelift.
If you want to see the RS60
Spyder
in person, Auto Exchange (ding, ding - sponsor) has one in their showroom if you're near Chicago. I like it except for the noise. (It sounds like a kind of whisper, and it seems to be saying, "buy me, buy me, buy me...")
Very cool car.
done it, not as simple as it seems
i removed the guage pod to paint it and you cannot simply remove the upper portion to resemble the RS60. its all one piece.
that said, i now know what it looks like in real life and its way cool. just having the 3 dials looks as if there's no dash in front of you, like on a motorcycle. it may be a small mod for Porsche but it does make a difference in the experience (as every change does).
i also swapped the stock steering wheel for the alcantara GT3 wheel and that is also well worth it if your trying to enhance your driving experience.
tj
here's a pic of the final result. i didn't take any pics, but here's how i did it.
1. remove lower cluster trim piece, the one below the 2 knobs. you just pull hard and wiggle it out
2. remove the 2 screws that hold the guages, which are now exposed. there's a wire harness holding the guage assembly which i left intact incase of CEL. it would be much easier to remove it, though...
3. once you pull off the guages, there are 5 screws (or 6) more that the actual surround piece.
4. thats it. from there, you can do what you like.
Great picture. Question is how do I dismantle the pod and have it painted with the same shiny silver?
I can't figure out even step 1. It's a leather piece, and I just don't see how I can pull hard and wiggle it out!
no you're not, I dont like that either!
