I use a hypodermic needle to inject grease into the ball joint from between the gaiter and the shaft before I install them.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

10 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 0 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

So i've been restoring the suspension on my 996 and I fitted the sypder performance suspension refresh kit along with some ohlins at the start of the year Today was MOT day and to my shock the nearside ball joint has failed with excessive play! I've spoken to spyder and they are going to watch the video and advise I was wondering what you guys thought was up here, for reference the bolt is tight, the hub is a replacement from a boxster, the coffin arms were fitted in January and have done < 200 miles View attachment IMG_6108.MOV View attachment IMG_6108.mov

POST 2Original post

wtf was this sypder performance suspension refresh kit ! literal fail

POST 3 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

i know right! we can't decide if the shaft is too small or if the ball joint has just prematurely failed

POST 5 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Not a clue why you can’t see the video Spyder are sending out a new arm, let’s see if it fixes it

POST 6Original post

I had a Spyder coffin arm ball joint fail on my 986 after 3 years 12k miles and Dean at Spyder replaced it even out of the 2 year warranty. Still a faff to have to do it and then pay for another alignment even if the part is free, I'd prefer it lasted 10 years or 80k miles like they really should. For reference torque on the ball joint nut should be 75Nm/ 56 lb-ft

Switched to Chrome from Safari on my Mac and can now view it. Looks horrendous.

POST 8Original post

i am considering purchasing the spyder performance suspension kit though still looking for other full kits. @bridge what was the outcome in the end??

POST 9 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

@Damn2373 sorry I didn’t update this thread! I received a replacement arm from spider no quibble. Fitted it and it’s spot on. I also got the refresh kit and it’s ideal, good quality components and a decent price

POST 10Original post

I use a hypodermic needle to inject grease into the ball joint from between the gaiter and the shaft before I install them. It hopefully makes them last much longer.
