Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I ran the oil level check, and it was on the lowest level and flashing, so I put 1L in it.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

7 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

  • 911uk: 1 discussions

0 evidence records excluded for query context · 1 excluded by outcome qualification · 0 adjusted by outcome qualification.

0 acknowledgements have no verified action link; they do not establish a repair result.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

I mistakenly put this into the incorrect forum, so apologies fi you've seen this already. My Targa 4 996 has a small oil leak, I've put in about 1L in 12 months (passed it's MOT with it recently). I ran the oil level check, and it was on the lowest level and flashing, so I put 1L in it. Ran the check, and it came up as lowest level, but thought not much of it as the car was on a slope. Came to work this morning, 30 miles, and it's flashing at me again. Obviously don't want to overfill, and there was no great puddle under the car this morning, so I don't think it's come straight out. Faulty oil level sensor maybe? Thoughts and opinions are much appreciated.

I think there's just the electronic level system, no dipstick.

POST 4Original post

Oh ok, mk2 996 then.... seem to remember this inconvenience in my 986.2 Boxster some years ago. From memory the indicator lines don't need an awful lot of oil to increase the levels.

POST 5Original post

Can you confirm the model? There was no 4 wheel drive option on the 996 Targa and there is a dipstick.

POST 6 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Ah, reckon I've dropped a clanger there, its a May 2007 vehicle, so that's a 997 isn't it?

POST 7Original post

Sounds like it. So 4 wheel drive and no dipstick
