Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

I’m struggling to find definitive information on when stability control with active braking was introduced to the 996 and how to identify a car fitted with it.
Leading evidence: 'Install with it' (no explicit attributable resolution; this is a reported action or suggestion). Across 1 matching discussions, The most frequently discussed action is 'Install with it' (1 discussions). For that action, 0 discussions report a resolution and 0 report an unsuccessful attempt. No action has an explicit, attributable resolution report under the current rules. These are forum reports and suggestions, not a confirmed diagnosis.
Source reports, not a diagnosis or a success probability. Counts refer to discussions and can overlap.

Also - was the stability control module changed during the run (fly by wire)?

These are separate views of the same evidence. Frequency alone does not establish a fix, and these counts must not be added together.

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi,
I’m struggling to find definitive information on when stability control with active braking was introduced to the 996 and how to identify a car fitted with it.
Are there any resources out there that outline this?
Thanks
the PSM is linked to the the braking system & throttle (fly by wire).
I believe it was it was standard on all 4wd 996.2 models and optional on 2wd Carrera's
Option 476
Easy to spot, the button on the dash
What are the general settings for the PSM? I.E button not touched = PSM on, button pressed once lights up the dash and that means its off? Or is that a 'sport' setting and a long press and hold will turn it off?
I've not played around with it too much, other than certain sections of my favorite passes i press the button once as on the tight hairpins it gets the light flashing and cutting power if i dont.
Thanks for the replies - this answer confuses me somewhat - is the 99 a cable throttle but uses the same PSM labelled button as the fly by wire cars?
Also - was the stability control module changed during the run (fly by wire)? Bosch seemed to be the industry leader at the time, which manufacturer did they use and did they change?
All Carrera 4 are e-gas (fly by wire) and have PSM. Cable throttle can't do PSM, only traction control. So the only cars with PSM were e gas with some having it as standard and some as an optional extra. If you don't have the dash button with PSM on it, you don't have PSM. All the early cars (before the C4 was released in '99) were cable throttle.
PSM is activated at all times unless you press the button - all this does is deactivate it. You should also have the PSM light in your instrument binnacle illuminated when you switch it off.
If when driving a bit more extreme on country roads / hairpins and the lights flashing on and off, then your suspension is knackered, your tyres are fubared or deflated or your ABS/PSM system is faulty. Most likely worn shockers.
Or it’s just saved you ass like it did for me when I got a bit throttle stampy happy on a damp road, went a little sideways
bad driving in my part by all accounts
I was meaning it's flashing on and off more than you'd expect it too. Worn parts will trigger it activating more often and if it goes beyond the pre-programmed parameters, it'll ping the light on constant until you switch the ignition off and start the car again.
Cheers, so it's only single stage, on or off? Light comes on when I press it. And it only happens on the tight 1st gear hairpins if you provoke it with too much throttle with a bunch of lock or another steep one in second but thats really off camber too. It's got new suspension/ tyres on it and I assume it thinks I'm about to bin it haha its much quicker on those sections with it off.
