This large wing will change the aero...I would think you would need to make changes to the front as well if you ever take it over 100.

Coverage and how to read this overview
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Re: very interested in adding a classit turbo 911 whale tail to my cayman
Hm....have any photos you can post? I'm having difficulty picturing this looking good....

Is this it?

Re: very interested in adding a classit turbo 911 whale tail to my cayman
I am guessing aftermarket...this does not seem like a mod that would be supplied by a dealer IMO.
Re: very interested in adding a classit turbo 911 whale tail to my cayman
Would look better with the standard Cayman spoiler out of the way, but other than that looks pretty natural on the car.
Re: very interested in adding a classit turbo 911 whale tail to my cayman
I agree with Bretster, the standard wing needs to be in the down position, otherwise I think it looks surprisingly good and gives the Cayman a "heritage" look. The wheels are very nice.

Re: very interested in adding a classit turbo 911 whale tail to my cayman
Totally disagree. IMO it looks ridiculous - that whale tail attachment simply looks like a single-piece aftermarket attachment that bolts (at least, I hope it's not just glued) on to the rear hatch.
The problems I see with this are:
- it totally destroys the functionality of the OEM rear spoiler, plus the fact that the spoiler is raised in that photo makes the car look even more ridiculous
- the fake vents on the whale tail make it look cheap. Why make the Cayman look like a rear engined car?
- bolting a large and presumably heavy spoiler like that onto the rear hatch will make opening and keeping the hatch open a lot harder
- overall adds a bunch of unnecessary weight to the car
To each his own, I guess.
Re: very interested in adding a classit turbo 911 whale tail to my cayman
That could be another negative. Porsche puts time, research, and money in to the aerodynamics. This large wing will change the aero...I would think you would need to make changes to the front as well if you ever take it over 100.

I am with coal0101 on this one
Re: very interested in adding a classit turbo 911 whale tail to my cayman
I agree that with the fake louvers, it just doesn't look right . . . and the guy went to all that trouble to modify the looks, but left on the orange side markers!
Re: very interested in adding a classit turbo 911 whale tail to my cayman
I like the idea, I don't like the execution. If you remove the vents and somehow able to prop it up without the use of the original cayman spoiler...I think it would cool.
coal0101
you gotta have some big kahoonas to try this .
I do give them props for thinking of it and actually executing a finished idea .
this is where great ideas come from ,it could lead to other ones ,so whoever did it ,I tip my hat to ya
Re: very interested in adding a classit turbo 911 whale tail to my cayman
Although not very functional, I think it would look great if the regular OEM tail was down or taken off.
Re: very interested in adding a classit turbo 911 whale tail to my cayman
that thing is wrong for so many reasons... All I can say is FASHION VICTIM!!!:taunt: It's like walking around with MC Hammers pants in 2010
Re: very interested in adding a classit turbo 911 whale tail to my cayman
There isn't a really good side picture of it. From the photos that are there, I don't hate it, but I also don't love it. The OEM spoiler does need to be down as has already been said.
What REALLY surprises me is that the previous owner spent all that money on the car, yet still has manual seats. Granted they are the Sports seats, but still.....
Re: very interested in adding a classit turbo 911 whale tail to my cayman
That whole car looks like a riced-out pimpmobile, butt ugly. And the seats look like the dealership slathered Armor All over them. That poor car went a long way down the wrong path. Someone PLEASE rescue that thing. Those are the most hideous wheels I've ever seen.
Re: very interested in adding a classit turbo 911 whale tail to my cayman
I actually think this is a very unique mod. I always loved the original 911 whaletail so I think I get this mod. Not that I don't agree with the problems people point out here (added weight, non-functional vents, etc.). Just saying that not all mods are performance-enhancing; some are only for looks and are very subjective.
wow that is alot of responses i do like the look, i have a bodyshop guy that is all into ferraris, but loves the styel of my car. he sai what you have in that picture is nice but not complete the vents are wront and the wait is to high up. im not going to do it now maybe not at all but to intigrate the
cayman
spoler to function witht eh wail tail might work. and remove the vents and intigrate it in a way to look oem.
Re: very interested in adding a classit turbo 911 whale tail to my cayman
Would look better with the stock spoiler down or just plain removed. It works with the ultramassive tires and would work better with wider fenders. Otherwise it is out of proportion to the normal tail.
I think it looks good. I wouldn't get one or anything, but I don't think the center section of the
cayman
rear end is that great to begin with. Big sexy haunches on either side housing big sexy wheels, and a bland smooth middle with a dinky spoiler..
