Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Hi all, I’m at a bit of a difficult decision. Buying my first 996 C4s 2004 90k on the clock priced at 32k but it’s had a 20k refresh and it looks mint. They won’t budge on the price. The main thing I’m worried abt is the resale value do you think I would lose a premium on it. Or am just being d%*k and wanting a better deal? All thoughts and advice would be great. Here’s the car if you have a chance to look at it. Porsche 911 996 Carrera 4S Manual - £18,000 full refresh - Friends Green Porsche www.friendsgreenporsche.com

POST 2Original post

My 2p is that if they spent all that money why have nankang tyres front and p zeros rear - I suspect the costs they are reporting are retail costs and truth is they paid a lot less for the work and charging top dollar for it. It looks great and is probably one of the best but the drop on it would be hefty.

POST 3Original post

A lot has been done, sure. There is still a lot that could need doing too though, so consider that. If you're happy with that go and drive it and see what you think.

POST 4Original post

The biggest factor in 911 prices is mileage - and to me that price looks high for 90k miles, which might affect any resale. That said, it's a fantastic looking car with a great spec. If someone really wants a non-sunroof car in a nice colour, they could be looking for a long time before finding another!

Trade 996 C4S with 90k on the clock in a rare colour Note when they say £18k worth of work, that's the retail price, but such cars are going to be priced in the trade up around £30k, so the price is not unexpected, since engine rebuilds do cost what is the OP after ? there are cheaper cars but without engine rebuild or a warranty, although they should really offer more than just a three month warranty #Justsaying A full servicing record is present, including the original maintenance booklet, with 13 intervals stamped. The leather owners wallet, containing all of the original booklets is also present, in additional to a folder of paperwork relating to the Porsche, such as maintenance invoices, historic MOT certificates and other miscellaneous documentation. The service intervals completed are as follows: 20/04/2005 – 13,617, 11/07/2007 – 29,311 miles, 24/11/2008 – 55,258 miles, 18/03/2010 – 62,875 miles, 30/07/2010 – 64,104 miles, 13/04/2012 – 71,171 miles, 11/04/2014 – 78,060 miles, 18/04/2015 – 83,217 miles, 13/10/2017 – 86,875 miles, 07/07/2018 – 87,378 miles, 03/01/2020 – 87,824 miles, 02/03/2022 – 89,950 miles, 25/08/2023 – 90,147 miles. As detailed earlier, we have completed a full engine rebuild, including 6x new cylinder liners, an upgraded EPS cylindrical IMS bearing and all of the other “usual” processes and part renewals that are completed within a full engine rebuild. Other works completed with us in preparation for sale include: Renewal of three-piece clutch kit, water pump, thermostat, engine mounts, coil packs, coil pack heat shields, exhaust back boxes (stainless steel “switchable”, exhaust fixings and clamps, starter motor, starter motor / alternator “Y” cable, 4x brake discs and pads, 2x air conditioning condensers, 2x front to rear air conditioning pipes, re-gas air conditioning system, renewal of 2x front suspension top mounts, 2x front suspension top bearings, 2x front suspension bump stops, 2x front suspension dust bellows, 2x front suspension lower control arms, 2x front suspension trailing arms, 2x rear suspension lower control arms, front headlight self-levelling rod, rear headlight self-levelling rod, steering rack power steering pipes, NSF inner and outer CV boots, OSF inner and outer CV boots, 4x brake caliper pipes, four-wheel alignment, various further miscellaneous parts. Please request a copy of the document outlining the above £18,000-worth of sales preparation works if required.

POST 6Original post

Hi, do you have any idea which liners have been fitted in the engine rebuild, and who did the engineering work? if it's done by hartect for instance it would make a difference, pretty sure their rebuild warranty lasts 12 months or x amount of miles, if it was done by them the hit would not be that bad really i'd say it would always be desirable and hold value due to the work carried out, for me it depends on who did it and which liners have been used.

POST 7Original post

Ask them how they'd feel about having an independent inspection at your cost and then , depending on the answer, go from there....? She does look a lovely car but they all do when clean. That will tell you alot..... i'd also be querying the tyres too. Si.

POST 8Original post

the tyres shouts is not been owned by an enthusiast to me so would be suspicious of other items that may have been overlooked

food for thought you are getting into turbo money there, and i'd be leaning towards a turbo for that budget.

POST 10Original post

It sounds like a lot of major work has been done recently. It may be worth getting an inspection done but I'd be prepared that it may not highlight anything serious. It would be interesting to establish who did the rebuild including fitting of the liners and machining the cylinder bores. Not all rebuilds are equal, experience counts... Also, new Nankangs and part worn P-Zeroes as a selling point ? Nankangs are IMHO ditchfinder quality and P-Zeroes are in my own experience old fashioned, poor performing and wear quickly. These cars deserve much better rubber than that so I'd ask to swap out for 4x Michelin Pilot Sport and see what they say. They can always use the Nankangs and P-Zeroes on another car. Remember they can surely get tyres in at trade prices, so only a few hundred quid to them to absorb.

POST 11Original post

From their videos, they're open to PPIs on their car. They do their own extensive inspection which is well documented too. Give them a call to confirm, I've spoken to them and they seem open and good for a chat. Re. the car, lots of work done, it should save you from a lot of future costs though there's no guarantee. Its a lot of money for 90k C4S. Definitely dig into the engine rebuild in more detail as others have said. Yes, the tyres are not ideal. Mine came with some brand on the fronts that I'd never heard of and were a joke to drive on. They are definitely a discussion point.

POST 14Original post

Mate, you can have my manual C4s for 18k lol. It's 95 percent as nice as the dealer car and completely sweet. To be fair, when buying from Friends Green you are primarily looking at their added value on top of the car. That's where the extra cost comes from, and of course you don't get that back on resale.

POST 15Original post

I too was interested in this car in June. When it was priced at 30k. It had a cobalt blue matching interior then. When I did see me digging they have had this for sale since March time. The engine warranty is 12 months (in house) And basic 3 months on everything else. I did ask why not 12 months on all seeing as they say they have future proofed the car for years to come. Since then they have repainted the interior silver & added 2k to the price?? Very strange selling tactic seeing as it stood for 5 months at 30k & didn’t sell. There are very mixed reviews on FGP. But they do seem good lads. Without doubt it is a nice car in a rare colour….but right at the top end & above price wise into turbo money. And should have a 12 months warranty if all is cool with the car as they say
