Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

15 eligible posts · 0 unverified posts · 1 discussions match the subject in their title or opening post.

POST 1 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Im back behind the wheel of the 996, after a long sabbatical (boring story including a court case with a bodyshop). Anyway, having just put 2k miles on it around France, the intermittent wipers are my #1 priority to fix. (its a long list though!) I have the rain sensor type wipers (i think? lens type thing in front of the rear view mirror?) I get one or maybe two sweeps from intermittent position on the stalk then nothing, and it was definitely raining hard enough to trigger it coming back last night! I dont have a relay in the footwell nor provision for one. I get one sweep if i move the speed adjuster on the dash left to right. Thoughts? and thanks!

POST 2 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

2002 3.6 RWD cab, if it makes a difference.

POST 3Original post

Have you moved the speed adjuster to the minimum delay to check that? I thought mine was bust but realised the delay is actually pretty big, even on the minimum setting. Certainly longer than any other car I’ve owned.

POST 4 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks Rob, I had two solid hours of rain last night to try every possibility of positions. No joy. It has not worked for years actually.

POST 5Original post

I had the same issue on my car when I bought it, the previous owner had the windscreen replaced and the sensor was not properly remounted. It might also be that the intermittent wiper relay needs to be cleaned, pushed in properly or replacing. It's located at the top of the relay panel, which is above the fuse panel. If you have the rainsensor on the windscreen, then there is a cable running from the sensor to the relay. If not, then there should be a blue relay instead... Have a look and let us know what you find.. This thread is useful and includes photos to the relay etc : link

POST 6Original post

This is the rain sensor windscreen mounting pad, in case you (or anyone else) needs it : link

POST 7 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks photek, im pretty sure i dont have a relay or provision for one;

POST 9Original post

Mmmm, question - does your car have option code M265?

POST 10 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 2707547

Don't know. A quick Google brings up auto dimming mirror? In which case, yes. Does that work though? Not sure!

POST 11 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Quotes source post: 2707547

Afternoon! The options sticker is ambivalent at best...

POST 12 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

If 265 is auto dim mirror and rain sensor then that's a yes;

POST 13Original post

Yep, it looks like you have option M265, which means that the system is controlled by a module under the bonnet (apparently...) I admit, I can't help - it could be a problem with this module? The part number should be 99661511300, they are available used from £30 upwards on eBay.

POST 14 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Thanks for the help mate, a relay would have been easier! I have chucked in a lowball offer on one, lets see what happens. It rarely rains in the UK right...? *update; the seller has already come back with a counter offer, oh! the excitement!

POST 15 / ORIGINAL POSTEROriginal post

Got a bit confused as there was nothing there on the side suggested. RHD on the other side! Seller is playing hard ball on my counter offer... Who will crack first...?
