I had Eibachs installed which is what some of the aftermarket tuners are using as K-Man S noted.

I have a friend who works for the San Francisco Bay Area parts distributor SSF, and they say that Bilstein has a set of PSS9s in testing specifically for the Cayman.

Coverage and how to read this overview

Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

POST 1Original post

I know many of you oppose to this idea but I think the stock height is a bit high...it'll look very nice if the car can be lowered an inch or two...i'm looking to see if there's a coilover system by bilstein pss9 for the cayman application...and yes i do know that lowering the car will decrease the car's handling ability but then i think the looks are more important...that's just purely my taste and opinion and i know not a lot of ppl will agree with me but any input will be great! POST 2Original post

Ginger, There are 2 routes currently 1) Get springs like the H&R's that were designed for the Boxster/Boxster S and put those on the Cayman to lower it. Techart and others have similar springs, but for the most part it appears manufacturers are at least initially repurposing Boxster springs for the Cayman even though from the factory the Boxster and Cayman springs are not the same. These springs will work, but are not 'ideal'. 2) Cross has a fully adjustable set designed for the Cayman that is currently in testing on the F-L GTR and will be available soon. Other similar systems from Bilstean, etc. are in the works but have not been released yet.

POST 3Original post

Ginger, I have a friend who works for the San Francisco Bay Area parts distributor SSF, and they say that Bilstein has a set of PSS9s in testing specifically for the Cayman. They also are testing a set that is compatible with PASM. brad

POST 4Original post

I agree that the car looks better lowered, but I also think it's best to wait for Cayman specific springs and coilovers. As these cars become more established there will be an increasing amount of specific mods available and I believe the wait will be worthwhile. I also think thatgiving the tunerssome time to work with the car and get a feel for things that work (or don't)willgive us all better results.

POST 5Original post

Dave, I was about to go back into my post and basically add what you just said... and you said it quite well, I might add. brad Edited by - beez on 03/30/2006 08:17:29 AM

POST 6Original post

Ginger, I think more people than not will agree with you that the cayman is perched a little high when compared to many other performance cars of equal caliber. I definitely agree with you on the looks...i really like mine better now that i lowered it. I had Eibachs installed which is what some of the aftermarket tuners are using as K-Man S noted. Hopefully they will not be an issue long term but if they are then by that time i will just transfer into a set of coilovers like you are thinking of. I have noticed absolutely no negative effects from lowering my cayman and would argue that my cayman handles better now than before....uhhh....take that back, i dont want to argue about it....especially with certain folks on this board....yeah...i think you know who i am talking about.../fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/wink_smile.gif good luck and have fun on your modding adventure!

POST 7Original post

Thanks for the reply guys!I guess you guys are right I'll be patient and wait for the right coilover/spring system developed specifically for the cayman first...in the meantime I'll just enjoy the current suspension setup that Porsche has offered /fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/teeth_smile.gif

POST 8Original post

Hey Red, have you noticed a lot of nose dragging with the lower car? Jeez, I want to lower mine, but I'm scraping my front underside too often as it is (it's the approach angle, the Cayman's front wheels are relatively far back from the front of the nose...). I think they definately look better when lower, I just hate that scraping sound!

POST 9Original post

Every once in a while on a speed bump (if I am going to fast) or if I am going up a steep driveway or something like that. My driving is mostly around town and expressway, so I dont get lots of variation in road height, etc. I dont hit anything except the air fins or whatever those things are called. the front bumper/spoiler has never rubbed, at least not yet. partially i think because it is angled up. from what i understand...a little rub every now and again on those plastic fins underneath the front chin spoiler wont hurt anything. you may want to wait a bit longer and see if any other mfrs. come out with options for less agressive lowering. good luck! let me know if you have any other questions...../fckeditor/editor/images/smiley/MWPX/regular_smile.gif

POST 10Original post

Who told you lowering will decrease handling? The lowering springs afterall, are more firm. In higher speeds, it may improve, because of reduced drag and possibly better aerodyamics. You might also get a increased hwy mpg because the engine may not have to work as hard. Only thing to worry about though is less suspension stroke, which may give a more rougher ride, an increased tendancy for the car to jump and 'bottoming out.' Of course these are a tad exaggerated, but you might notice these
