The only thing it did was drain $300 from my checking account.

I put a set on my black Cayman and they look great.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

Engine Tuning to 310 hp / 228 kW

Even more power for the Cayman S: TechArt Automobildesign (
www.techart.de
) lends the top-of-the-line model of the latest Porsche model range even more power. With TechArt TA 087S/C1 performance tuning power output jumps to 310 hp / 228 kW.
The TechArt power kit consists of a sport air filter and newly programmed engine electronics. After the installation, which can be done directly at TechArt Automobildesign or by any authorized Porsche dealer, maximum power output for each model increases by 15 hp / 11 kW.

Performance improves accordingly: Depending on vehicle weight and the type of tires acceleration time from 0 - 100 km/h improves by slightly under half a second. Top speed increases by some 5 km/h. Even more important for everyday use is the even more spontaneous throttle response and the further improved liveliness of the tuned engine.

The perfect complement to the power kits is TechArt exhaust tuning, of which various versions are available. The product lineup includes black chrome dual tailpipes for the production exhaust system, a throttle-controlled sport exhaust system and a complete high-performance exhaust system with high-performance manifolds, sport catalysts and rear muffler.

Sporty elegance characterizes the design of the TechArt aerodynamic-enhancement kit. The TechArt front spoiler, which is mounted to the production bumper, lends the front of the two-seater a more dynamic appearance. But that’s not all: At high speeds it also reduces lift on the front axle.

The TechArt side sills were shaped to calm the airstream between front and rear wheel houses and further to give the Cayman a lower, sleeker appearance.
To optimize the lifting effect on the rear axle and to achieve a more exciting look, TechArt Automobildesign offers a rear spoiler for the Cayman models.
The sporty TechArt looks are also characterized by custom-tailored tire/wheel combinations. The one-piece TechArt Formula wheels are especially light weight and are available for the new Cayman in 17-, 18-, 19- or 20-inch diameters, all TÜV-tested. The largest version features 8.5Jx20 wheels with ContiSportContact 2 tires in size 235/30 ZR 20 in front and 11Jx20 wheels with 305/25 ZR 20 tires on the rear axle.

The TechArt suspensions are custom-calibrated to the new tires. For a ride-height lowering by some 25 – 30 millimeters TechArt offers sport springs, which also harmonize perfectly with the PASM suspension available from the factory. Alternatively they offer a tighter set up sport suspension that was developed in cooperation with Bilstein.

As a world-renowned specialist for exclusive interiors TechArt Automobildesign also creates individual interiors for the new Cayman in all colors and designs in the company-own upholstery shop.

The lineup includes exclusive fully leather interiors and sporty accessories: TechArt offers ergonomically shaped airbag sport steering wheels with three or four spokes, and aluminum foot pedals, shift knob and foot rest. In addition there are stainless-steel sill plates with TechArt logo.

Well unless there is something specificly stated in the manual, or if the modification causes direct engine failure, there is nothing to worry about. Check
the Magnuson-Moss Warranty – Federal Trade Commission Improvement Act of 1975.
if you are unsure.
I think it will be interesting to dyno the modification and see if there is really that much HP at the rear wheels. I tuned two BMWs (318is and 530i) with Dinan mods (chips, exhaust, and cold air) and basically got nothing noticable, and at that time BMW dealers were selling the Dinan mods without warranty issues. The article stated that the mods should/could be done by an authorized Porsche dealer. If the figures are real it would be a good deal for all of us because it is very unlikely that the next Cayman "upgrade" from Porsche will be beyond 315HP.
DaveC,
When I asked my service manager about mods for the Cayman, he told me that he had a 911 get all the engine tunes, ECU mapping, exhaust etc.. and have no impriovement in performance.
Amro, yes I agree how can 15 hp get you a 1/2 second.
Russ
Me being doubtful again but where are the compromises made from the factory ECU? Something must be given up in one area to gain in another. None of these geniuses ever advertise that little piece of information. Free lunches don't even happen in politics.
Seems like we are all similarly skeptical. The price for this according to the CEC wheels PDF is $3795 which is $289 for the air filter and the rest for the ECU. Not exactly a "deal". Still we should await dyno testing to be fair.
I think we could easily find other things to spend our money on. Before I would spend a cent on a ECU upgrade I would have to drive a Cayman just like mine and FEEL the difference.
RUss
Well, let me put it this way. When I got my A4 2.8, I decided to try a Wetterauer chip since the 2.8 didn't have any other real options then. The chip plus a K&N filter was supposed to give me a 20 hp increase. The only thing it did was drain $300 from my checking account.
These guys will have to have before and after plots of HP/Torque to show the increase. Then you could say your cayman has over 300 hp, but that's all you could say.
On the plus side, I do like the exposed exhaust, they would have to be polished up though.

Brabus in Newport Beach,CA quoted me $3795 for the components and $200 installation. Real kicker is the shop time for the car is seven days as the ECU has to be overnighted to Techart in Germany. Gotta add a week's worth of car rental fees to the total cost!
I will inquire with Brabus about what they believe is being given up for the 15HP gain. I will also inquire about before and after statistics as I haven't seen anything other than the various marketing articles on the web.
I am seriously considering moving forward with this mod, so I'll keep everyone posted!

One other piece of information that I did get today from Brabus - RPM range is increased by 250 to 300 with the Techart ECO mod. That's all that was said in the email, but will be talking with them voice in the AM for more details.
This news item explains why BRABUS is installing TECHART mods:
