Read evidence and context
Explicit resolution reports before identified causes, performed actions and suggestions. Within each level, matching component labels precede direct query mentions and inherited thread context; successful versus unsuccessful discussion counts, owner confirmations and independent discussion support determine order. This is not a probability of success.

0 original-poster resolution reports. Counts can overlap; they are not unique people or a success rate.
0 discussions have direct query context; 0 report a fix in that context. Other evidence may inherit the discussion’s subject.
Reported cause
It was the spring-loaded button on the emergency brake lever.

Suggestion
If this doesn't work, I recommend a vinyl covering on top of standard car covers.
Counts describe captured discussions, not unique people or a diagnosis. Author identities are not reliably stored. Exact duplicate evidence is counted once across matching discussions; one discussion counts at most once per action/state. Multiple repairs reported together remain a combination. Suggestions and failed attempts do not establish a fix. Matches cover whole discussions and can include related faults, model variants and incomplete threads.

I don't know why that happened or what that has to do with the top, but that fixed the issue it's never happened again.
02 996 cab 2wd. Top has always worked great. Now I engage the parking brake. When I hit the switch it makes a slight clicking noise. The red light comes on, but nothing else happens. Any ideas on what I can check? It's supposed to rain in the morning and I have no garage for the night. Please help.
Is the brake light coming on in the dashboard? Have you tried operating the roof by turning the key in the door? ( I think clockwise to open and counter-clockwise to close) As a last resort you can close the roof manually - instructions are in the owners manual. But be aware that once that procedure is done, you'll need to have the roof recalibrated.
Sooo, when I pulled into my parking spot I had teh wing up. I've since openedand closed it. Could this have done something? Walking up to check the hood release now. Thanks
Opened and closed the fromp and the hood. Nothing. This sucks. Calling for rain in the morning. I've been drinking so I have to stay on the boat tonight. Guess I will wake up early and go buy a car cover till I figure this out. I'm very open to other suggestions.
I had an issue one time with the top not operating. It was the spring-loaded button on the emergency brake lever. It didn't pop out properly so I pressed it in a few times and it freed up. I don't know why that happened or what that has to do with the top, but that fixed the issue it's never happened again.
I've owned a 996 cabriolet among other cars with automatic convertibles. You can manually close the top in case of the electronic/hydraulic system is malfunctioning. The process is noted clearly in the owner's manual. This requires you crank the top back into closed position. Follow the steps while sober!
If this doesn't work, I recommend a vinyl covering on top of standard car covers. Most car covers are breathable and don't prevent water intrusion 100%. You can purchase large rolls of plastic from Home Depot.
Word to the wise, you DON'T want to let a Porsche cabriolet flood. Many frustrated owners have learned this lesson when the security/immobilizer module, which is under the seat, is damaged.
